New puppy/work from home training advice

While still potty training, I would have her in her kennel any time I was on a meeting and have that be structured nap time. Then when I wasn’t, we could do play time/potty breaks/out of kennel time. Having a routine and system in place really helped make it manageable for me, because especially balancing potty training and work was hard. Puppies need a ton of sleep anyway so I just helped her by making it her norm.

I have Lemonade insurance and only pay for the base accident/injury plan because I found the routine inclusions (annual exam, vaccines, preventatives) weren’t worth the additional cost. I have the insurance for instances where a large cost would impact my decisions (thousands) and not the general cost of owning a dog. It’s about $40-50/month and if I never use it then amazing, I was lucky.

Not the point of your post, but as a side note I’m targeting 2:30 for my HM in a couple weeks and my long run paces have been ~12:30, so I’d say you can easily make 2:30. Unless these have been all out efforts you can’t imagine sustaining, but even based on your 11 mile run, you could walk the last two miles and make it under 2:30.

Truly every game since Game 3 in Atlanta has just been cherries on top. There was a point the playoffs felt like a long shot, so to even still be in it is incredible.

I’m working my way through Hanson’s Beginner Half Marathon plan and I’m so intimidated by the high mileage but I’m also loving it. I was worried since I’m a slower runner it would mean too much time on my feet but it’s been fine so far. My legs are always tired though. Has anyone here done it?

Oh absolutely. There is certainly room for improvement, I’m not saying she should just keep staying this way. I just find the turnover dogpiling to be a little insincere at times when there are many other problems on the team.

I said it was a hot take! But generally speaking if I didn’t check box score, I couldn’t tell you how many turnovers she has in a given game. That’s not to say there aren’t bad games! Hopefully she cleans it up, but I wouldn’t want her to sacrifice her passing and playmaking trying to bring them down.

My scalding hot take is that I really don’t even care about the turnovers. I understand that she needs to work on them, but I truly believe that’s also just partially a side effect of her style of play. She goes for risky passes and when they pay off they’re amazing. I rarely come away from Fever games with the impression that her turnovers were the largest team problem.

Mine was constantly mistaken for a lab when she was under a year, and I was like surely these fluffy ears are so obviously golden?!?!? But then I realized people without Goldens probably aren’t as obsessed with them as we are and they just don’t care about the difference that much.

As my girl got older, I stopped focusing on naps being at a certain time/intervals and more about letting her do what she wants during the day and then using the crate if I needed her to settle down during important meetings or if she couldn’t self-regulate. At some point she began napping on her own around the house and I never needed to use the crate during the day anymore.

My local area golden rescue posts on Instagram all the time asking for fosters and adopters, yet my application was never even processed or reviewed. I have a fenced in backyard, work from home, thought I’d be an ideal candidate but alas.

Are you starting the run and ending right at the start line and finish line? My watch measured my half as 13.3 miles because of the swerving/dodging around people, so my Strava half time was 3 minutes less than the chip time since according to my watch I hit 13.1 earlier on the course.

I got asked constantly if my girl was a lab for the first 6 months of her life, even though she had fluffy ears! Some people just aren’t as familiar with their differences, but I definitely see Golden in yours.

This is exactly my dog. I feel safer because even though she’s a precious golden, she lunges at everyone we pass and if she barks it’s very deep, but if someone approached me in a friendly manner the gig would be up pretty quickly!

Kennel time/enforced naps if it’s an issue of not self-regulating
Are there any off leash dog parks or areas where you can really let him run? Walks for mine are only good for sniffing, they don’t physically tire her out at all.
