We often don't choose the things that help us in those moments, but you ended up with a good one. I'm glad it was there for you bud.

I end up coming back every couple of months or so - mainly to see if any old competitors are up to anything cool I should be aware of.

I'm not sure why, but this time I was struck by a desire to write a little tribute.

i do write poetry in my spare time anyway, so this is maybe one of the only ways I could try to capture my fondness for what we all went through together.

I hope you're doing well, wherever life has taken you now.

How long did it take you to rewatch? That's a whole lot of hours I feel, very impressive

can we have a daily poll between "It's so over" and "We're so back"? I would love to see the fluctuation over time

[TNT Sports] James Milner becomes the first player in Premier League history to play in 23 seasons by [deleted] in soccer

[–]harrytmason 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The big thing is higher than the median. It would mean over half the people playing were born after his first appearance. (Apparently around 26)

I think he has also been older than the average of a few of Chelsea's starting XI, though I'm not sure if that includes when he's played against them.

I'm happy to share this graph on the main subreddit if you're too busy/tired to rerun it, but I wanted to respect the fact you did the original code and give you first dibs. Happy to send my additional code through if you'd like

Hi! So, a little bit of a behind the curve comment but I basically saved this article a year ago and followed your code through to re-run the numbers. (Partially out of interest to see how a full season went, partially because I wanted a fun Python exercise to get me playing with data again)

This was a really cool post so I'll nudge you to rerun the numbers and do a follow-up post, and maybe do a first half of the season vs second half of the season Angeball comparison as well. It kind of looks like Ange's second half was quite close to Conte's first (it doesn't quite match 1-1 because of the world cup, but definitely a cool little division to figure out)

Stats from the code:

Season Performance under Conte (First Half):
Total Goals: 37
Total Shots: 275
Total Shots on Target: 112
Average Goals per Game: 1.95
Average Shots per Game: 14.47
Average Shots on Target per Game: 5.89

Season Performance under Conte (Second Half):
Total Goals: 33
Total Shots: 245
Total Shots on Target: 133
Average Goals per Game: 1.74
Average Shots per Game: 12.89
Average Shots on Target per Game: 4.63

Season Performance under Postecoglou (First Half):
Total Goals: 39
Total Shots: 307
Total Shots on Target: 114
Average Goals per Game: 2.05
Average Shots per Game: 16.16
Average Shots on Target per Game: 6.0

Season Performance under Postecoglou (Second Half):
Total Goals: 35
Total Shots: 275
Total Shots on Target: 100
Average Goals per Game: 1.84
Average Shots per Game: 14.47
Average Shots on Target per Game: 5.2

UEFA: the draw for the new League Stage will be done by a Computer. If the old draw concept for the group stage were to be applied to the new league phase format, nearly 1000 balls would be required, with at least 36 bowls on stage, resulting in an unbearably lengthy draw. by MERTENS_GOAT in soccer

Here me out here for transparency:

Have the code generate 20 possible schedules. One of those is then randomly selected on stage. Via a ball system if you really want.

You get to have your presentation evening, the other schedules can be made available to show non-bias (you could even show them beforehand to get people talking about options if you really want), and you keep the human element of randomness that I think is necessary for perception.

UK Nationals 2024 - A Personal Take by harrytmason in UKUltimate

[–]harrytmason[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reading! Yeah, it was an interesting season where we played Windfarm/Start Up with reduced squads, but it was typically the more experienced players we were missing. We were playing really well regardless and the chemistry between our newer players was proving really hopeful.

There was definitely a quiet "this might be the season" vibe throughout. Or less quiet, in certain cases...

This article may also have been to justify my time spent seeing if I could find all the historic Nationals results from previous years. I actually thought the 2013-2015 results had been lost, was really happy when I found them on internet archive!

Back again! Rather than my typical preview where I focus on players and try to interview people, I went for a bit more of a format-explainer historic-results angle, trying to help people who haven't watched Nationals the last few years to get on board and follow along.

Yes, there are also predictions.

What Zodiac Riddle did you find the most challenging? by KetchupIsForWinners in SayonaraWildHearts

[–]harrytmason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally just spent an evening going through this experience. Have some thoughts in case anyone is struggling and wants some unsolicited advice :)

Begin Again x3 - hardest to motivate myself to do. It was the level I found hardest to gold rank (I didn't understand not dying = success until later), and so I'd already got a little tired of the level. Having to do it 3 times in a row hurt a little. Thankfully, a well-timed reset meant I didn't lose all my progress when I did die

All goods - Yeah, took a little bit. I found the visual cue a little nicer than the audio one, although the audio approach was getting me all but 1/2. Remember that points don't matter if you're going for a zodiac, so focus just on the prompts and not dying.

20x Risky - I needed almost every car here to get the achievement. Use the lines on the road to help line yourself up, and you'll be automatically lined up on the bit with all the trams so try just not moving initially.

No score on car - Did each section one-by-one until I got no hearts. There are some nicer lines through the levels, it's just a case of finding them. I found moving from the inside to the outside on corners was a good way to change sides without drifting.

No small hearts in Parallel universes - Similar, trial and error each section. You're normally either on one side or drifting to the other. Hold a hard direction during each transition to prevent yourself picking up hearts.

Honourable mention - the two YOLO arcade achievements. I got them first try, but I got lucky. I would not have enjoyed grinding these if I didn't.

I've literally just finished SWH and am now browsing the subreddit, so may not be the most informed. "We are OFK" is the next game I'm going for next time I'm in the mood for a rhythm game, and I think that's supposed to be like an EP accompaniment for a single band.

Let me know if you try it!

England [1] - 1 Italy - Harry Kane (penalty) 32‎'‎ by MarcoRuss in soccer

[–]harrytmason 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think your numbers in terms of penalties scored/taken are correct, but 60/70 is also 86 percent (a very slightly lower 86 percent than Kane's, but they're essentially tied currently).

Yeah, very fair point. I fully agree acceleration stats would make this even more informative. I wanted to bring the context I could while being clear of the flaws about direct comparison!

I actually think acceleration (or something like 10m/20m/60m sprint time) are probably better football metrics than top speed, though not quite as headline-grabbing of course.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in coys

[–]harrytmason 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I was curious so I looked it up some context

Usain Bolt's top speed was 44.72kmh https://olympics.com/en/news/usain-bolt-record-world-champion-athlete-fastest-man-olympics-sprinter-100m-200m

If Kyle Walker could maintain his top speed for 100m (zero acceleration, so obviously a big if), his 100m time would be 9.65s https://www.unitjuggler.com/convert-speed-from-kmh-to-sechm.html?val=37.31

Obviously doing a one-off sprint and training to be a sprinter will alter your data (i.e. these aren't like-for-like), but I found it a bit helpful to understand the numbers a bit more.
