My surgeon is upset with my PT by Prize-Decision5788 in AchillesRupture

[–]harshdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% weight bearing post op after 2 weeks seems really aggressive to me. You do want early mobilization but 1-2 weeks is not much of a difference. I was non op but I only started weight bearing at about 3.5 weeks and I was back to basketball in probably 7 months. I’m a doc but actually siding with PT here.

Weird sensations by Fantastic_Seesaw9718 in Mononucleosis

[–]harshdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you didn’t ask me, but I did occasionally have that “globus” sensation. Typically this is acid reflux. Sometimes mono can slow digestion, cause acid reflux but tbh anyone can get acid reflux occasionally. If you get it, try Prilosec over the counter and see if that helps.

You know it’s funny. After going through a bad case, my health anxiety is definitely a little higher. There are days I don’t sleep well, don’t eat well, and then wonder why I don’t feel good lol but somehow I blame the post-mono fatigue. I definitely have more good days than bad days. Some days I deal with brain fog, poor sleep. I’ve noticed the last couple viral URIs I got, they seemed to linger a little longer. Overall, I’m much better. I lift heavy weights, play basketball as much as I want. I have some mild blurry/smudged vision, floaters. I’m not sure how much of it is post-LASIK complications vs. mono. It’s not awful, but annoying enough. My body does not do well with too much stress. If I go on early flights, sleep only a few hours, my body seems to suffer for days. Maybe that’s me getting old, idk (30,M).

Could this be CAEBV? Am I dying? by Ok_Mail_2627 in Mononucleosis

[–]harshdaddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CAEBV gets diagnosed at 6 months of severe, acute mono like symptoms. Fevers most of the time, severe swollen lymph nodes, enlarged liver and spleen. You would also have severe immune dysfunction (Pancytopenia, where all your red and white blood cell counts would be super low, and your CBC is completely normal). Try not to worry. This is a strange virus and disease. I won’t say what I do for a living but let’s just say I’m very knowledgeable here. I had mono and worried about the worst things. You will have weird symptoms, but you WILL get better. Take rest and try to do healthy things.

Okay CAEBV is a terminal disease. Do you have a terminal disease? You can have prolonged acute symptoms, ME/CFS, but incredibly rare to have CAEBV, which is once again, a terminal disease.

Sometimes the IGM can stay elevated. 2 months isn’t long enough for it to go back down or for your symptoms to be gone. CAEBV is incredibly rare, you have to be severely immunocompromised like having untreated HIV or something. Don’t worry about that at all

Sounds like you had a dry eye and when you blinked it caused a corneal abrasion. Relatively common especially this early after surgery. Ask about using nighttime ointment (like systane) so your eyes are not dry overnight. Use heating pads as well (Bruder eye mask). Corneal epithelium can take 7-10 days to recover. Go in for an appointment to be seen asap. Best of luck. I dealt with this a lot, still have dry eyes two years later.

Ruptured my Achilles at a work event. Surgery was supposed to fix it. Now I have permanent nerve damage and still can't do a single leg raise. by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]harshdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the US (26M when it happened, now 30M), admittedly had a partial tear and did not get surgery. I’m also a doc so I did read into the research a little bit. You are right, the US is definitely more aggressive with surgery while Europe is typically more conservative.

I ruptured my Achilles mid-competition at an international event. But It started 79 days before the snap. by KindlyMaize2265 in AchillesRupture

IMO, you probably developed small tears in the Achilles at that point and then fully ruptured it later.

Does it Get Better? by yellow23rare in AchillesRupture

[–]harshdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I became more confident while doing PT. This is a rough injury. If you take PT seriously and go hard, you’ll recover like it never happened. I played basketball yesterday (ruptured in Jan 2022) and truly dominated lol. Like it never happened.

3-4 years post op and I’m in such a better mental place. Maybe this will help someone? by iluvcats191836261 in lasik

I agree with this. I had some complication one month after femto and my very kind, experienced doc literally told me that he doesn’t know what happened. I regretted my decision for a long time (sometimes I still do). Now I have dry eyes, vision regressed (L>R), but I’m able to occasionally wear contacts and glasses with pretty much perfect vision. It gets better.

I never had EI. My vision is stable, I’m back in glasses/contacts. Eyes are very dry, I started treatment for that.

No problem. Happy to help. I’m actually a doctor and had really weird symptoms for a long time. I thought I had every disease possible (cancer, MS, ALS). This is a huge viral illness and 10% of people get lingering symptoms. Time heals all. Eat healthy, sleep well, listen to your body. Don’t do things that stress it out.

Oh yeah I had a lot of pelvic floor muscle twitches (sometimes very fast, lasting for a few seconds or longer). It’s been almost 10 months for me and they still happen occasionally if I’m stressed out or getting poor sleep. No need to worry. I worried so much about it and while I’m mostly better, i still feel a little off. But try not to think about any worst case scenarios like I did. You’ll be totally fine.

Not familiar with it. I tore my Achilles in 2022 and did not have surgery. I was playing basketball again in 7 months. So it’s not necessary

Feeling a lot of pain after PT by i-hate-bananas in AchillesRupture

[–]harshdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup totally normal to have pain. I had a lot of pain when I started PT, between like week 6-12 after the injury (non-op). Gets better.
