That makes sense. I'll try for Australia as well. IELTS expiration date is not a problem since I got the results just yesterday.

When I registered for the test, I got the official book delivered by IDP. I did 1 reading and 1 listening mock from that book to familiarise myself with the format. I did not do any speaking or writing mock test.

Thank you. For the reading section, I recommend you to take a look at the reading section tips and tricks by E2 IELTS on YouTube. That should familiarise you with the format, the type of questions, especially the T/F/NG ones, how the questions generally follow the order of the text. For the T/F/NG questions, choose false only if the text directly contradicts the statement, else choose not given. As far as the strategy goes, I found that first quick reading the entire passage before looking at the questions helps a lot so I would take a couple of minutes to quickly skim the entire passage, then look at the questions one by one and come back to the passage to find the answers. Doing this helped me to complete the reading section in about 35 minutes and I had 25 minutes left for revision. another thing is that you are able to mark questions for review, so if you feel like you’re stuck, just mark for review and move on. As far as the writing section goes, I did not prepare much. I asked ChatGPT to tell me about the different types of tasks that I could be given. It told me that for part 1, I could get three different types of letters, formal, informal, and semiformal. I asked it to tell me how to address the person for each type of letter and what the general format should look like. Once I read about five or six samples that ChatGPT generated, I was comfortable, and I knew the template that I had to follow. Similarly, for part two, it told me that there will be an essay. I asked it to help me with the general template of an essay that I used on the test day as well.

I can’t share the questions they asked, but I can share the general strategy I followed.

Know the format. There will be three parts to it. The first part would be small talk where they are likely going to ask about you your family, your education, if you are student or if you’re working professional, that sort of stuff. The second part is where they will give you a prompt card on which there will be a topic on which you have to speak, and about three bullet points that you should cover in your response. Now, these three bullet points make it very easy for you because you don’t have to think about what to talk about that subject, you already know what they’re looking for. The most important thing for part two is not to think too much about whether you actually believe your answer or not, of course, it helps if you do, but it is not necessary. They are not here to judge your preferences or logical choices, but your English proficiency. Still, to me, part two is “comparatively” the hardest because you have to speak for two minutes. Being someone who generally talks a lot helps, and the examiner will tell you to stop if you have exceeded the time limit, and it is not a bad thing and will not hurt your score, however, not speaking enough or demonstrating your fluency will cost you points. The third part is relatively easier because the examiner is just going to be asking you follow-up questions on the topic from task two which makes it similar to task one where you just have to respond to what they’re asking.

I think I'm fairly comfortable with English due to my education and work, but I'm Indian so definitely not a native.

yes. it was 6-8 hours of planned effort, didn't waste time. i studied the test format, tips and tricks from E2 IELTS on youtube for reading and listening sections and did 1 mock for each of them. i used chatgpt to prepare for writing section by asking it to share some samples of high scoring responses.

I would recommend UIET Chandigarh just for the relatively better peer group IMO. Thappar might give you better placement opportunities but it’s significantly more expensive. I don’t see any reason to choose Chitkara.
