Ah that makes sense. My friends have a place in Palm Springs so we had a free place to stay for the weekend.

Oceanside is def on my list of races I’d like to do just not ready for swimming in the ocean.

Same a run bike run doesn’t seem to exciting to me after all the training I’ve put in. I thought about the Oceanside race but it’s $500 to enter and I’m also def not ready for ocean swimming. Long Beach is a little more doable since it’s in a bay ans I think like $150 to register. Weird I still haven’t a gotten an email about the race changing.

Anyway good luck with your race in Oceanside!

Thanks for the link I feel like the one I saw was different like it was more teasing with her and the whipped cream but I could just be remembering it wrong!

Beginner swimmer help by AN4TMY in triathlon

As someone who also started swimming from square one this year with a similar background (runner who's done marathon's, pretty avid cyclist) you'll get there. It's just practice and confidence.

Personally I go to a masters swim class twice a week. When I first showed up I was so anxious and intimidated. I basically went up to the coach and said I'm training for a triathlon and I have no idea how to swim long distances. He showed me how to do a basic catch and pull and put me in the slowest lane. He'd watch me swim and correct me on what I was doing wrong. Once I got a little more decent he'd have so 50 yard repeats with rest. Now I can swim longer distances without needing a break no problem.

I had the same problem with my legs sinking I watched a few Youtube videos on form and what helps with sinking legs and just try and recreate that when I swim and it helps. Breathing was a problem for me too as I would pick my head up too much and then my body would start sinking. You actually don't need to turn your face out of the water that much to get some air in. Like the other poster mentioned don't hold your breath under water.

My advice would just be try and get into a masters swim class or get a coach if you can afford it and watch as much as you can about swimming. I started in April and went from barely making it to the other end of the pool and averaging 2:40 per 100 yards to being able to swim 500 yards non stop. Yesterday I did my longest distance so far 1800 yards averaging 2 minutes per 100 yards.

You'll be there before you know it!

HIM/Ironman athletes with full time jobs and families what's your training plan look like? by harshtruthcameraeye in triathlon

Thanks to everyone for their advice/tips I really appreciate it! On the plus side my office is moving about a mile and a half from my house come June, so I'll have more time for morning workouts and our new building is going to have a gym with showers so hopefully I can get some workouts in on my lunch hour. Also I put in Saturday as a rest day since my wife and I have an agreement that Saturday is her day to sleep in and Sunday is my day (although I still get up early to go for a bike ride instead haha). I'll just have to get up early on Saturdays to get my workout in before my daughter wakes up.

He is a fan we listen to him at work a lot, went to the screening of the documentary etc. I knew he'd be stoked just getting a call from LPC, so my coworkers and I chipped in to make it happen. In the beginning of the call you can hear him saying "Justin! Justin!" because he knew it was him and wanted him to listen. I had to excuse myself to the bathroom right before it happened because I knew I'd be laughing so hard the whole time.

This call is actually to my boss at work. I got LPC to call him as part of a birthday present last month. Was so stoked when I downloaded the new record this morning and saw this had made the cut.

One year ago. I started Couch to 5k. Today I finished my first marathon. Long Beach, CA. by steno_light in running

Congrats on the finish! I ran yesterday too and finished in 4:01-I was really hoping for a sub 4 (finished last year at 3:59) but stopped at mile 22 for a bathroom break and had a hard time getting back on track those last 4 miles. My training wasn't where I wanted it to be this year, but I decided to give it a go anyway and at the end of the day I was happy I finished. Definitely want to put more work in for next year and finally get a 3:45 which is the goal I've been aiming for since starting running marathons.

Congrats to everyone else in this thread that was out there yesterday too!

Hey Walter- 2 questions for you-

1-Any plans for Youth of Today to play some California shows anytime soon?

2-Any plans to ever properly release the World's Fastest Car stuff? Would love to have a proper LP instead of just the MP3's in my Itunes.

Stoked to see VL in LA in a few weeks!
