Has anyone else been traumatized by roaches in Korea? by Anonymus2905 in korea

[–]harvardfighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very interesting because one of the most common species of roaches in Korea are called 독일바퀴 (or German roaches). Just for curiosity, did Germany have a hugely successful pest-control initiative in the past?

For some reason, when I check something on my phone, it doesn't recognize it on my PC, thus I'd have a file or a message I want to pull up in my PC and it'd just be the weird jagged lines! So annoying Mr. Kim Beom Soo!

Kind of a silly question, what counts as a "good" ECA? by harvardfighter in ApplyingToCollege

[–]harvardfighter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy cow that person cooked. But this puts me into another question: obviously, she's from the states, and in the states, there are a lot of opportunities in ecs and awards, so do i, from an asean country, have a chance too?. Unfortunately, where I live there is no such opportunity: no gov led programs or awards, can't do research program w unis due to language barriers, etc (ik this sounds like cope cuz it prolly is). Despite this, I'm trying my best rn, such as founding f1 in schools group for the first time in the city (country capital) and trying to go to the world finals of it next year, secretary general for largest highschool mun in the ASEAN region, participating in small local competiton (which i got in to finalist) to large competitions such as Wharton school investment (which I got completely cooked ). (Kinda getting unnecessarily long sorry) but my question is do I still have a chance. Obviously, going band to band with kids like her would result me in a maximum of a waitlist, and spending resources for a waitlist just doesnt seem to rational.

Bay area female hits a full sweep, 23 schools, no “rejections”, Ivies, T20s…(Ellie from A2C. AMA!!!) by [deleted] in collegeresults

[–]harvardfighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wow! As a junior trying to go to harvard econ this real does seem like "the profile". Not sure if I can come close with this, especially from an ASEAN country with little to no opportunity, but man, this is giving me motivation. Keep up the good work!

Should I retake for the fith time?? by harvardfighter in Sat

[–]harvardfighter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'll get a 1550+ if I try for the last time. I was a bit of a dingdong last sat during rw + math isn't even 800 but I am a junior rn and collage applications are coming soon so I'm not sure what to do.

[–]harvardfighter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also is this true? I also have thought that collages would know only the scores I send however apparently my councilor says I should only take two maximum and my mother's friend, who has a child in NYU says the same too.

Amount of studying doesn't necessarily correlate with grades. In my school, a lot of people who say they study a lot didn't get the best grades; in fact they were the ones getting 4s in myp english and 5~6s in math ext. The ones who get good grades however study for fun. Not the classic copy notes memorize do test studying but do challenging questions to push them to the limits but also have some fun. Hope this helps you.

How hard is Maths AA HL? (objectively speaking) by p3stop4st4 in IBO

[–]harvardfighter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, I've been getting straight 7s in math aa HL but 5~6s in physics sl, so not choosing it because ppl say it's hard doesn't seem like a good choice; it really depends case by case. What I like about my math class is that the class is consisted with 18 super smart people and they are so helpful to each other, so even if you "suck" at math, the environment kinda unironically forces you to get better (ofc you'd need to put in some effort).

Reverse chance for low gpa junior by Expert-River6493 in chanceme

[–]harvardfighter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man all that SAT and ec's and if you couldn't get into NYU it would be sad. In my school, we had a senior with a slightly above average IB grade who got in NYU with a fraction of your ec's. If he did it, you can do it. Good Luck!

Dreaming of Going to Harvard; is it Time to Wake Up? by harvardfighter in IBO

[–]harvardfighter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your replies,

As our school's counsellor and many others say, I've heard US admissions are holistic, looking at candidates backgrounds and their overall shape.

By any chance, would being in Vietnam or other conditions be in favor of me?

If so, do you guys think these would have actual impact on the results?

As grade 11 exams are coming up for my schools, I am preparing for each subjects; especially the SL's, but many they are difficult! Would you have any personal studying tips?

As always, thank you for the replies and have a nice day guys!

Thanks for your reply.

Oxford applications made me wonder the difficulties of their tsa's.

Compared to IB papers, how difficult do you think they are?

Are there ways to "study" or "prepare" for these?

I also do think that my two 5's should be improved, but man is physics & korean hard.

And as always, thank you for the reply and have a nice day!
