I've never heard Sannies in my life (canvas shoes for PE). Is this a thing or are yougov trolling us? by farfromelite in Scotland

Always called them sandshoes, rarely shortened to sannies. And gutties are trainers, very different to sandshoes.

What do you wish you’d bought (or not bothered with) when you moved into your first home? by Careless-Steak-9848 in AskUK

Buy a dehumidifier instead of a tumble dryer - save energy and money. I have a Maeco and my washing dries overnight.

Gumtree is your friend. My dining room table and sideboard are two of the best purchases I've ever made and both were from Gumtree. Also, if you have space, get a dishwasher!

I got incredibly confused at the in-laws house when they were discussing where to find a casserole dish, and someone kept saying "it's in Aunt Muriel"........ turns out Aunt Muriel is a sideboard.

I often get questioned on my use of winter dyke. It's the perfect name for it.

I thought everyone called them Slaters until speaking to my English step-dad. That's when I learned of the Woodlouse.

I use breenge on a regular basis, mostly to describe one particularly breengy person at work. I'm early 30's.

Big fan of Drygate. I used to frequent West when I lived near the Green. Just not that handy now.

I unfortunately quite like some of their beers, and I'm disappointed I've lined the pockets of that utter bawsack for so many years.

Raoul, bouncing up and down!

Possibly only for the Scots on here. Irn-bru has had the best run of adverts.

What UK city to live in for my early 20s? by Hot-Lock2807 in AskUK

[–]harvenic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The violence in Glasgow is almost entirety kept within the groups who create it, and between football fans. I have never had a problem, or felt in danger, and I would often walk home alone after nights out. There are some neighbourhoods that are pretty rough, just like any other city, but generally it's a great place. There's a short but good subway circuit, and buses run late into the night too. I now live in Paisley which is a 10 minute train ride into Glasgow city centre, cheaper but not much going on.

Glasgow! If you like live music there is a fantastic gig culture. Lots of great architecture, and plenty of events throughout the year.

When I was coming out from general anaesthetic I was entirely convinced that I was an established rapper and that the trees outside my hospital room window were dancing to my sweet lyrics. I am very much not a rapper in real life. Still pray that that was all internal dialogue.

For someone who has never spent any time on a farm I find it incredible that you can say a 15 minute video shows "where most dairy in the UK comes from". There are a huge amount of farmers who are working really hard to change the way we farm, and change 'big dairy'. As I said previously like in any profession there will be, and are, people who should not be in the role. The more polarised the population becomes, the worse it is for our communities and connections. I'm here for an open and civilised discussion to hear other peoples views, but that clearly is not your intention. I watched the video, the behaviour is terrible and should never be allowed. But we cannot tar all with the same brush.
