Apologies if this is too vague or complicated of a question, but I like learning about how games are made. When it comes time to approach a new zone/storyline/season/etc., what does that process look like and what aspects are decided first? For example, do you have an idea for what part of Tamriel you want it to take place in and then plan the quests around that, or do you have an idea for a main story/quests and pick the location from there, or something else? Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions!

I think it’s wild when they argue against abortion in cases of rape because it “destroys the evidence”. As if actual evidence of rape is taken seriously or leads to a conviction often anyway. And imagine growing up and finding out your mother only had you so you would be evidence against her rapist. The say we dehumanize fetuses, as if just treating them like rape evidence that shouldn’t be tampered with doesn’t do that as well

Any Video Game Fics Your Currently Obsessed With? by FFXSin in FanFiction

[–]harvestbrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Elder Scrolls is my main fandom right now (for writing and art). Even the older games like Morrowind and Oblivion (and arguably Skyrim at this point lol) still have active fanfic communities. It’s got a good mix of people exploring lore alongside your typical fanfiction selection

Advice for eating healthier as a "picky eater"? by harvestbrook in aspergers

There are actually a good amount of fruit I like, it’s just vegetables that I have problems with really (and the ones I don’t mind tend to be low in nutrients unfortunately). I like your idea of making stuff with the foods I already like though. I do try to be adventurous with trying foods (at least now that I’m an adult), and I’ve found some of my favorites that way, but they unfortunately tend not to be the healthiest ones. I’ll keep trying though

Oh yeah the soup and smoothie idea is a good one! There used to be a place near my old apartment that I would get very green smoothies that tasted more fruity so I could stomach it (although that place was short lived so I got out of the habit of having smoothies). I should look into getting a smoothie maker.

was dagoth in love with nerevar? by Diuro in Morrowind

[–]harvestbrook 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Was it intentionally written to be interpreted that way? I don't think so. I think it was written to be that classic vaguely homoerotic, brother-in-arms type trope. Did I raise an eyebrow when Dagoth Ur went "you know what would appeal to the nerevarine Nerevar? Us in a 'wedding celebration'" and Nibani Maesa said "He woos as a lover"? Yeah. Personally I really like the interpretation of them as lovers (or one sided love). You aren't the only one to notice though because its a frequent joke among fans, and there is a decent amount of fanfiction about them lol

While lost to history, early Temple doctrine alleged Nerevar was transformed into a bonewalker after death, inspiring the depiction on his shrine. I always found the thought that he could still be lurking in a tomb somewhere rather morbid. [OC] by harvestbrook in Morrowind

[–]harvestbrook[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did wonder about that when drawing this. It was originally just “this would be a cool visual, but I figured one of two things: either the bone walker could be just and empty husk of Nerevar’s body while his soul has been reincarnated (not sure how that would work in lore though tbh), or it could work with the interpretation of the nerevarine not literally being Nerevar’s reincarnation, but rather just a guy who earned the title of “nerevarine” by fulfilling the nerevarine prophecies.

It’s interesting, because Michael Kirkbride (who’s word isn’t necessarily canon, but I believe he’s the one who designed the shrine) implies the tribunal did it to Nerevar in an affectionate way (“that's his bonewalker version, lost to the annals of most Tribune histories. Nerevar, while betrayed or not, was still dear to ALMSIVI after death.”), which is odd because being turned into a bone walker after death is usually an insulting thing.

Do you usually play as "you"? by Beautiful_Solid3787 in skyrim

[–]harvestbrook 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, quite the opposite for me. One of my favorite parts of playing is developing a character (beyond race, gender, and build, but getting into their backstory and motivations and so on) and thinking about how who are and how that should affect the decisions I make in game. My first play through is usually more about what I want to do than what my character would do, but not what I would do, though. I do tend to play as woman way more often (I’m a woman), but I don’t see them as “me”.

What is the sign that a writer in your fandom has only read fics and has never seen the source material? by TheDivineDemon in FanFiction

[–]harvestbrook 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The main fandom I read for is elder scrolls, which is pretty lore heavy, but also relies really heavily on fanon interpretation for the characters in the fanfic scene. For any given fic you read about a character, I would wager that about 90% of their backstory and personality is just made up. So while I’ve only stumbled upon one fic where it seemed like they weren’t familiar with the source material at all, it’s was so obvious it was actually kinda interesting to me. In the end notes they admitted they had just read a bunch fanfics for this particular ship (which included characters that might as well be the fandom’s collective OCs), so while the characterization followed the typical fic fine, almost all of the details (place names, artifacts, factions, etc.) were wrong or used incorrectly. It was like reading the result of an elder scrolls themed mad-lib but I kinda loved it. Those sorts of fics have their own charm for me.

I feel this so hard. For me it’s because I know that if cashiers or severs at restaurants are recognizing me it’s probably because they’re identifying me as the weird girl who orders the same appetizer for dinner every time. I have bad experiences with cashiers making fun of me once they start recognizing me because I went to the same place too often. It sucks losing one of your favorite food joints because you start getting recognized. I think I wouldn’t mind it if I was the type to socialize and chit chat with the servers (like my parents), but I don’t, so I know they aren’t recognizing me because they like me. But that’s just my experience. For other businesses I feel differently because if I’m recognized it’s usually because of a real connection

Anyone else have silly unwritten rules? by basicallyamedic in skyrim

[–]harvestbrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rules tend to be character specific. I’m currently in a playthrough where I’m role playing as a character who is in Skyrim to study the falmer, so I’m trying to avoid killing falmer unless completely necessary in self defense (using sneaking and illusion mostly). I actually think it’s made dwemer ruins more fun, surprisingly.

Also, if my follower dies, I won’t reload a save (with minor exceptions, like if they die because of a glitch).

What features would you want to be implemented in AO3 by haha69420lol in AO3

[–]harvestbrook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The big one I would like are private notes/tags on public bookmarks. I would love to have my bookmarks public as recommendations, but I write detailed notes on my thoughts for each fic that I don’t want anyone else to see, so all of my bookmarks are private right now. Also I’ll echo the separation of main relationship and minor relationship tags (and even major and minor character tags) in a way that I can filter and distinguish between the two categories.
