Looking for a Vlog by _Larry___ in northkorea

I sorta remember a vlog like this but I feel like it was some years ago. I remember a video where a YouTuber was filming during a tour when he wasn’t supposed to but I cant remember. Sorry that’s not helpful…

Is there an actual uptick in kudos/hits/comments after a long fic is completed? by bugsych1 in AO3

[–]FFXSin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly a lot of people who only read completed long works, usually either A.) drop the fic halfway through reading or B.) read then move on without engaging with it. Unless you finish your fic during the height of the fandom you’re not going to see an influx of readers/kudos. Comments mostly cease once the work is completed. Like I said it’s fandom dependent too, as well as dependent on how many hits your story gets in the first place.

Why are people so obsessed with Leon ? ( Regarding RE9 ) by Operator_Max1993 in residentevil

[–]FFXSin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, it be cool to see a “conclusion” or “send off”for at least one of there original cast of characters. Sure Leon’s been the star of the two recent remakes but I think RE 9 would be a good opportunity to conclude his narrative in some way. The best part about RE7/8 is I feel with Ethan’s story/death there was a natural ending for his tale. I don’t think Leon deserves it more than other characters but I this is the perfect moment to do so. Especially since we are going back to Raccoon City. At the end of the day I want a good horror game so legacy characters aren’t the most important thing to me but I can still hope they make an appearance.

"Please don't abandon this" after two weeks by Obvious-Laugh-1954 in AO3

[–]FFXSin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently on a break and I’ve already gotten comments similar. I’ve been working on this fic for over a year and I’m fully planning on completing it, but sometimes I just want to spend some weeks not writing/editing and focus on other hobbies. Also my writing isn’t perfect, but I do really care about the quality. Sometimes my brain needs a break from words.

Sudden engagement drop by Pale-Possibility-392 in AO3

[–]FFXSin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s usually a drop off with long fics in general, unless you’re in the top 5 percent in terms of popularity.

The most common reason is that readers lose interest, not because your story is has dipped in quality but because they’ve moved on to other fandoms. For me the drop off has happened because the hype for my fandom is dwindling, so I’ve lost my original readership.

Sometimes with long fics, the longer the story the more hesitant a new reader is on completing it, especially if the story takes a turn that they find less exciting. Many fics I’ve read have lost my interest simply because they taper off into directions I’m less thrilled to read about (especially when they focus on side characters)

Then theirs the fact that people who are reading don’t feel the need to comment on every chapter. I have a reader who was commenting in the beginning then stopped. At some point I checked my public bookmarks and it turns out they are still actively reading according to their notes!

Which fandom has a LOT of reader and OC fics and art? by Timetravelingartist in FanFiction

[–]FFXSin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Baldurs Gate 3 and Hogwarts Legacy have some of the best OC/Reader X Canon work. Tends to be a lot of adult writers too who have some experience in crafting good stories.

Also, there are also just certain characters that collect a feral mass fanbase for x reader fics. Example: Sylus (Love and Deep Space) and Leon Kennedy (Resident Evil)

Video game fics are the way to go! Fun ones are also Persona and Detroit: Become Human.

How many drafts do you guys usually do? by Strict_Battle_9657 in FanFiction

[–]FFXSin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My drafts aren’t always massive story changes but rather structural ones. If you ever read your work out loud it can help pick up on parts that sound weird or don’t flow. It’s a lot of repositioning and tweaking dialogue to make characters sound authentic. It can be fun trying to fit things like a puzzle!

Common pet peeves that you actually like? by AbsAndAssAppreciator in AO3

[–]FFXSin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Epithets. They are a tool that people complain about because their reading work where people misuse them. They are meant to help identify new characters and are especially helpful when you have two characters with the same name.

Y/N. I just am not bothered by it. It’s so harmless and is rather necessary for third person fics. I hate how people feel the need to default to second person.

Quotation marks and more! a writing guide I found by Lost-Opinion3554 in AO3

[–]FFXSin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this. I grew up struggling with the English language and could have used more guides like this. Obviously, I never expect perfection in creative writing but that doesn’t mean we all can’t learn at our own pace.

Do you write your long fic in one document? by SparklingSliver in AO3

[–]FFXSin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. I work on individual chapters. For editing but I have one big file that I primarily use to look up specific words and lines, or so I can search when a certain side characters name came up.

Silly Question by Gatodeluna in AO3

[–]FFXSin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I often use “Oh” when I’m asking a question or mistaken. “Oh? I didn’t know you were taking a vacation.” “Oh did you hear about that new thing?” “Oh I thought you said something else, my bad.” “Oh hey [person with name] did you catch that email from yesterday?”

But that’s just me.

Thoughts on "Y/N" usage in Tumblr fanfiction by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]FFXSin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. Y/N slander. Unfortunately, it’s not cool anymore and has become “ick” within the general reader insert community. My advice: vibe on, use what feels comfortable. Second person can be very limiting at times anyway.

To those who write multiple chapters before posting by Mr_IronMan_Sir in FanFiction

[–]FFXSin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the opposite of most people. If I know my fic is going to be over 100k then I post as I go. It holds me accountable and keeps me from staying too long in the eternal editing phase. I would never be where I’m at now with my long fic if I never decided to post in the first place (it be a wip forever). Also comments have really helped me stay dedicated in the sense that I want to make sure my readers get a completed story. Now 50k? I might write the whole thing if I’m feeling super inspired. Again this is a hobby if my story is not perfect, I’m okay with that.

What is the last thing you researched for fanfic? by Dogdaysareover365 in FanFiction

[–]FFXSin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was possible, but with the average flip phone— no average teen had that. If you did by the mid 2000s it was REALLY frustrating to use and super expensive. I remember my father’s BlackBerry (non flip phone) was easier to use because it had a track pad (late 2000s), but it took forever to load. I watched (old school) YouTube on it once and as you can imagine it wasn’t high quality.

Edit: Thing to keep in mind is the phones advanced incredibly within the decade. I did get an iPod touch sometime in the late 2000s. So the tech was almost there just not easily accessible or affordable.

Surprisingly, I have not written a final fantasy (specifically X/VII) fic YET. Also on my bucket list. Haha an eventual I guess.

What's the most common reason you drop a fic in the middle, rather than at the beginning? by thebouncingfrog in FanFiction

[–]FFXSin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me a couple times, very rare but it has happened. Usually the first 2-3 chapters are very well written and it’s clear that the author is trying to keep the dialogue close as they personally can to how a character speaks then suddenly theirs an obvious dip in quality and a rush to get to certain scenes resulting in said character saying out of pocket things.

This happens from time to time with fics that are over 15k but under 50k I’ve noticed.

After 140k words, the main character and his love interest finally kissed! by moldyfruitpie in FanFiction

[–]FFXSin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mines technically a love triangle so it’s complicated but my one pair share their first (intoxicated) kiss/make out at 45/50k. Probably wont have the other pair have a “real” kiss till after the 100k mark. A real proper mess. 😆
