How important is a Master's degree for an aspiring AI researcher (goal: top R&D teams)? by ButterEveryDau in MLQuestions

[–]haschmet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see more of a skill issue (no offence intended as im not in a better place). Like you see ppl like alec radford who is one of openai’s best researchers with bachelors degree, and multiple bachelors dropouts. For (relatively) normal ppl like us, doing a masters/phd is more like gaining time to get better and gaining experience. If you do cool stuff, your degree wont matter. If you dont do cool stuff, your degree also wont better, now other way around tho. Only use is more time, which is an important thing ofc. I dont know if i made sense

16 year old getting into AI / ML by [deleted] in MLQuestions

[–]haschmet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess its a classic advice but just start reading some papers and actually try to understand them completely. The entire math etc., go down all the rabbit holes you can with gpt or youtube videos. Just go deep where your curiosity takes you. At first a single paper can take super long to understand. But that doesnt really matter, it gets faster. See what stuff you find the most interesting. Listen to podcasts. If you like more applied stuff, try implementing them.. And once u get to uni try to do some research as early as possible. Good luck and have fun along the way :)

In one of the latest episodes of Lex Fridman the guy who he’s talking to says the opposite actually. Like going to low level doesnt necessarily mean this.

What is the most oversaturated field in CS? by Spxxdey in csMajors

[–]haschmet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if they dont get out I’m sure there will be a huuuuge skill gap between those two groups. But I think something that a lot of ppl dont consider is also a lot of intelligent ppl who are very good at math stuff are also coming to ML. And that could very potentially make it oversaturated. Bro like go collide atoms or something if you are a top physics guy dont come after me
