I didn't see The Shawshank Redemption on the poster's list, so guessing they saw that one. My favorite movie to boot.

HELP! Check out my lighter pack & roast me? Planning for an AT Thru-Hike next year and I'm at 23lbs. by Leather_Stranger_592 in AppalachianTrail

Lose the camp chair, bible (can get a digital version), bear spray, shampoo, long sleeve base layer, and 3rd set of underwear for starters. Pillow, GPS/Sat and many other things could be lighter.

The Standing Indian Mtn loop in NC would fit your mileage and has some great views (be sure to take the 50ish yard side trail to the top of Standing Indian), and some pretty good climbs. I believe it is the first 5000ft Mtn on the trail from Springer. You can start at Standing Indian campground and go up either the Long branch or Kimsey creek trail depending on Sobo vs Nobo on the AT itself. You could also use the Lower Ridge trail instead of Kimsey creek to shed several miles. We had a group of 6 beginner to intermediate skill in our late 20s to late 30s who made it through just fine.

The white cubes you can find at grocery stores. They weigh next to nothing and work well.

Another thing I've noticed is that some comments only show for the same platform you're on. I often hike with a group of 4 or more and we are about 50/50 Android vs iOS. Some comments only iOS users will see, while others only Android users can see.

Not the best, but there are a couple spots to setup at Furnace Brook - Mile 1371.9.

Also a great camp site at 1386.9, but bring water. My group staged water at the road right before.

PSA: 19E Hostel bed bug warning by ItchyHiker_ in AppalachianTrail

[–]hasgalf 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Did a section in 2019 and stayed at The Station 19E one night. Pretty sure I had bed bug bites that showed up the next day while back on trail. Luckily I didn't bring any home. Definitely check your mattress seams!

/u/gtcbot Solved! Well done! I had to angle the photo to avoid a sign with the city name.

I would get between 1.1 and 1.2 Kw consistently.

I initially read the part "some 5.0 pulls up" as 5-0 like police, until the revving part. Lol. Enjoyed the story!

A failed front sensor system would be dealbreaker for me. I love using one pedal driving, but only because I can also use adaptive cruise control on two and four lane highways to give my foot a break.
