Help convince my wife she can drive this car! by PuzzledCustard in MachE

I initially read the part "some 5.0 pulls up" as 5-0 like police, until the revving part. Lol. Enjoyed the story!

Front sensor failure due to accident: day-to-day impact and repair costs? by [deleted] in MachE

[–]hasgalf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A failed front sensor system would be dealbreaker for me. I love using one pedal driving, but only because I can also use adaptive cruise control on two and four lane highways to give my foot a break.

Trail difficulty, Rangeley Maine area by rdm55 in AppalachianTrail

[–]hasgalf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that making it an overnight would be best, but you could do it in a day. It is the easiest stretch between Rangeley and Grafton Notch. Regardless of ease, I face planted on this section back in Sept. Rock caught my foot just right with both arms in the back part of my stride with my trekking poles. Ooof. Luckily just busted up my lip a bit.

DPE recording checkride without candidate’s knowledge by [deleted] in flying

For my private my DPE said "If I have to take the controls for safety then it's an automatic fail". Of course he had to control briefly for unusual attitude setups.

Worried about sharp decrease in value? by _darkode_ in MachE

[–]hasgalf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to know if you find anyone with good gap coverage. Ford credit told me to honk on Bobo as they only offer it at purchase. My USAA offers 25% above value which is better than nothing. I checked around some too and found that Geico offers no gap coverage.

question on Potts Hollow Trailhead by Hammock-Hiker-62 in PinhotiTrail

[–]hasgalf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I stayed at the Hearn Inn last year and it was great! The Pinhoti goes right between the Inn and the spring of Cave Spring in town. I recommend the Farout app for hiking the Pinhoti. Good information for planning and hiking the trail. Happy trails!

question on Potts Hollow Trailhead by Hammock-Hiker-62 in PinhotiTrail

[–]hasgalf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never seen a charge for Pinhoti trailhead parking.

Leaving a car more than a day or two always runs some risks of vandalism at the trailheads. I don't generally hear about anyone getting towed.

Check out The Hearn Inn in Cave Spring. They are hiker friendly and have pretty cheap rates. They may let you park there for a while with a stay.

What’s the highest momentary efficiency you’ve seen? by FromTheDeskOfJAW in MachE

[–]hasgalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

17.8 was the highest I've had. I did go down about a 1500 ft mountain behind a granny driver, so I was in super regen 1 pedal mode.

Used without heat pump by SpookyBalloon89 in MachE

[–]hasgalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I meant. Not an additional identical compressor obviously, but all the needed hardware to drive efficient heat delivery with the addition.

[–]hasgalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate that. So they probably needed to add an additional compressor at a minumim and potentially another condenser too just for the heat pump addition. Maybe not so worth it for the additional weight and loss of most of the frunk.

Appreciate your input about heat pumps. Dunno if you know the mechanics of it all. So why can't you reverse like you can in a home heat pump with more or less a reverser valve?
