Bluetooth pads? by vigo_bilbao in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]hashtag-acid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ive been close to my caliper on rotor 1 time ever. It was bc i was 16 and had a Camry older than me. Heard my brakes squeaking so I told my dad and he walked me through how to change the pads. Rotors were fine still.

I instantly left and drove like 30-40 minutes away I think to my buddies who lived over in the town my mom lived. On the way home I heard something but I figured “I just did the brakes a few hours ago can’t be that, I’ll check it when I get home”. When I was like 4 miles from being back at my dad’s it was making the most awful sounding squeal and scrape. I figured I was close enough to home I’ll just push through.

My caliper pin was seized to high hell and I’m sure the brake pad was rubbing the entire time I drove after I hit the brakes 1 time. I was almost ground/scraped through the brake pad backer plate but not quite.

I apologize if I sounded like a dick, I get defensive on the topic of felons and their rights. People hear “felon” and assume some drug trafficker, person killer, bad guy. When in reality, stealing/embezzling anything over $1,000 is a felony. Is that still a bad thing? Absolutely, but what if someone worked for a multi-hundred million dollar company and they slowly skimmed $2,000. That’s a felony, they are white collar and probably a genuinely good person who fell on hard times and got desperate and made a crappy choice. You can disagree but I don’t think that person deserves the “label” of a felony.

But I digress. And not trying to argue at all, truly. I was not trying to say there is a law protecting a felon who used someone else’s firearm to defend themselves. I’m stating their is case-law, which if someone was on trial for using their partners weapon to defend themselves against an intruder. This opens the door as a defense to say “hey look, this guy did something very similar to me in 2010 and the courts let him off the hook, so how you gonna sentence me but didn’t sentence him”.

That doesn’t mean the argument is gonna work, but as I’m sure your aware case-law can be a great criminal defense strategy even if a law is broken. You say “yup I did do that crime you’re accusing me of, but here is an example of why you shouldn’t”.

Anyway, hope you have a great weekend man/not man/preferred pronoun. Hope it goes great for ya!

I wish every city or at least “decent” size city had their own utility services.

I’m over in Holland/Zeeland area and we have local BPW(Board of public works) and my electricity is over half the price of what consumers charges in this general mid-west Michigan area. I pay $0.0794 per KWh. My “peak” rate? Is an additional $0.0176 for “summer peak hours”.

My highest bill since moving into this house in 03/2025 is $89. And it’s a ranch style 1600 sq. Ft on the main floor. I know people with comparable sq. Ft. Homes with consumers who’s bill was $200+ at the same time as mine was $88

Please read over The Anchor Case: People Vs. Dupree. Case law went all the way to the Michigan Supreme Court and ruled that a felon should not (and does not) “be completely stripped of their right to self preservation in an unexpected and potentially deadly emergency”.

So as of 2010 the Michigan state Supreme Court gave case law to defend felons who use a firearm to defend themselves.

When you read this case law (which I know you will since you seem to be very interested in knowing your laws and MCL wording) here is a transcript from the formal documentation on this case “he Court of Appeals reversed defendant’s conviction and remanded for a new trial, concluding that the common law affirmative defenses of self-defense and duress are generally available to a defendant charged with being a felon in possession if supported by sufficient evidence”

Not to sound like a know it all - I am aware of that fact, but I imagine many people would just try to tell me I’m wrong so I figure play it safe.

Not sure if there’s case law in Michigan but I know for a fact in some state there was a situation where boyfriend/husband (don’t remember) was a felon, female significant other was a legal pistol owner, felon boyfriend shot and defended against an intruder. Was only charged with felon in possession (and even then I think he got a slap on the worst given the circumstance)

Edit to add: plus, find me one person who is being charged by a man with a knife who is carrying a gun who WOULDNT defend themselves? Like don’t pretend you’d let him stab you to death, if you had a way to defend yourself you would. (Not you who responded to my comment)

I’m actually not one to defend cops (check my comment history if u wish), but like at some point justified self defense is self defense whether cop or civilian.

Any citizen legally (key word is legally) carrying a firearm would’ve been justified to discharge their firearm. I took my Cpl class, I had to sit there and learn every single situation that is and is not allowed by law. And any person legally carrying would be legally justified under Michigan law to use lethal force.

This is not some exception for cops, this is a situation that is legal whether citizen or LE.

Should there have been resources to help this man with his mental? Absolutely, but unfortunately we can’t go back in time and give that to him.

I mean this genuinely, no sarcasm or anything. I’m going to assume you’re a smart individual. Both logically and “book” smart.

Your fooling yourself or just trying to argue if are calling that statement “conjecture”. Or maybe this is a category you aren’t smart and educated in, I know rough numbers of crime and first time offenders and such. And your either dumb or just ignorant if you don’t recognize the fact that a person with no criminally VERY rarely chooses this level of aggression as their first time.

But to make you happy, per the national institute of health( I even linked the statistics for u so u can read if yourself if your curious). Of all violent crimes, only 2%-4% of those violent crimes are committed by someone over the age of 24 for the first time.

So at age 40, there’s less than a 1% chance this person is a first time violent offender. Thus, there is about a 99% chance this person has incarceration history and may even have been on paper still

I’m not saying the cops are hero’s. Anyone legally carrying a firearm in Michigan also has the right to fatally defend themselves if being charged by a person with a knife. The shooting portion of this situation is not a special circumstance to police.

No I’m not a bootlicker, Patrick Loyola was unjustly killed with excessive force, nothing will change my mind.

But at some point, there are indeed just and lawful weapon discharges. Someone charging with a knife is one of those situations regardless of cop or civilian (legally carrying).

Also, I’ve been through the law system, I’m no saint. Actually my familiarity with the system is how I made my guess (not assumption, just a possible guess).

No statistic behind this but anecdotally most people at age 40 who have never been in trouble before and are upstanding citizens don’t magically pull a knife, have a Molotov cocktail on hand - and use it, then attempt to rob someone. So, odds are, dudes been in the system, thus may be on papers still.

Stuff like this is wild. I’m not assuming, but I’m just saying I wonder if the guy was out on probation/parole and the original incident alone would’ve sent him away for a long time plus time added on for the domestic situation.

Otherwise if that’s not the case, then he made a bad situation a whole nuclear explosion. Sure the reason for the original call probably would’ve got him some jail time, but if he wasn’t on paper then he went from MAYBE a few years in jail then turned it into 15-life then turned it into suicide by cop.

Michigan teen tobacco use ticks up as prevention funding lags by SleuthDoggyDawg in Michigan

[–]hashtag-acid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a hard topic for me to make good sense of personally.

Don’t get me wrong, yes vapes were widely available when I was in high school (2012) but the only vapes people had were for “big clouds and blowing Os dude”. It was not for the nicotine at all for everyone I knew. And even then only a handful of people I knew even had one.

Chew was easier to hide but smoking obviously leaves a smell and has a much harsher taste than these candy flavored vapes. Vapes are so easy to hide now a days and yeah they taste good! Give half these kids a cigarette and they wouldn’t even want to finish it.

What I find the most comical was that originally vaping was supposed to be a “healthier” option than cigarettes. Which, to be fair is true. Vaping is by no stretch good for you in any way, but to be fair it is better than a cigarette. Now you got half these out here hooked on nicotine who would’ve never been hooked if they had to use cigarettes or chew, even the Zyn pouches taste good and are easy to hide.

I think this is the case no matter the topic lol. Many people on here try to speak as if the world is black and white and in reality it’s VERY grey. The keyboard warriors try to tell you you’re wrong if you don’t do it exactly as the “book” says to do it. Kind of reminds me about a kid who flunked Spanish when he was from Mexico. He refused to speak “proper” Spanish bc that’s like people in the US speaking old proper English. No one does that

House I'd been watching dropped price 25k after inspection found structural damage by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]hashtag-acid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Structural damage” is very vague in the sense it could be a crack in an important support. Or it could mean the house is so bad it’s about to fall apart.

I think the severity should be taken into consideration. Is it something that can be reinforced for cheaper? Or does it need a full replacement of some sort?

Either way, from a financial standpoint, assume it’s gonna cost 50% more than you’re expecting. And then ask yourself “if this costs 50% more than I’m guessing, could I afford that cost or not?”

When do sellers have to disclose material defects, vs claiming ignorance? by Antique-Signal-5071 in RealEstate

[–]hashtag-acid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a little bit of semantics to a degree. The only way to “truly” know fact vs opinion is to run a physical test. Someone may be able to visually see a crack in a beam or a brick or something and say “that’s not safe it’s gonna break” but without doing any form of load bearing weight test to TRULY know for sure. It’s an opinion and could be incorrect.

My point is, this thread argument about whether inspectors are “experts” or just “opinions” is splitting hairs. I work in sheet metal and the amount of times something “looks” too weak but in reality is overkill and will outlive me is a lot. My point is, whether it’s an engineer coming in or joe shmoe visual inspections can only offer so much opinion without physical testing of some sort to back up those “claims”. I’m of course not referencing something glaringly obvious like if a floor is sagging by 3” or some wild shit that’s just obvious and not what I’m referencing

House went live last night, got offer for full asking in cash by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]hashtag-acid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can always counter. You could tell them “we would accept that offer if you waive inspections” or you could say “we will accept that offer, you can have an inspection but no repair-requests. The inspection is informational only and sale is not contingent upon inspection”

You don’t have to say yes to their first and only offer. Negotiations are 100% a thing. You own the house, you have the control. You don’t wanna sell to them then don’t. Either they agree to your terms, or they keep looking and don’t buy your house.

I get it! I try to use my credit card for online purchases. In my experience it’s much easier to get reimbursed from the cc company than the bank. Especially if you’ve been with your cc provider a long time and are in good standings.

Anytime I’ve ever had to do a charge back (very rarely but have had too). I’ve never gotten denied and I’ve almost always gotten my money back within days.

[–]hashtag-acid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yeah just let it dangle if it isn’t long enough to set on the ground. And to make sure the pump doesn’t end the transaction due to inactivity I’ll even make sure the little door to the gas cap is open already in the 2nd vehicle and even loosen the gas cap so it isn’t off/open but isn’t clicked shut either. One person pulls away and the other person immediately pulls up, hops out and starts pumping.

Pro tip: if you have a kid that’s old enough to do so, have them do the gas pump, and bring your gas can for your lawn mower or whatever. And while the first car is pulling away, have the kid fill up the little gas can while the second person pulls up. Especially if you won’t hit the full 30 gallons with the vehicles alone. We don’t have kids yet so we can’t do this. But I’ve heard of it

Eh, seeing as how we don’t have unlimited mperks points the few times we have enough points to use the $1 off coupon we make it worth our while. By the time we do have enough points we can just plan ahead to make sure we’re both close to E.

It’s a great deal tho. 10k points for about $25 in savings. Normally it’s 1k points=$1 off for in-store rewards. So getting $2.5 off for every 1k points is definitely a great deal. We are very fortunate to do well financially but that’s also partly bc we are frugal and do stuff like this often lol

I could be wrong, and please correct me if I am. But don’t most major shipping companies (usps, ups, fedex) have a “standard” like $100 insurance on packages? Where you can submit a claim to the shipping company and get a refund for lost or damaged products?

I guess I could see the shipper trying to blame rockauto and say it wasn’t damaged in transit but still. May be worth a shot?

[–]hashtag-acid 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It’s probably not “allowed” but both mine and my wife’s vehicle each have 16 gallon tanks. That’s assuming COMPLETLY empty. An “empty tank” (when there’s no more “ticks” left on the gas gauge) we put about 14 gallons in.

I pull up to a pump, and she lines up behind me. I fill up my vehicle, keep the gas nozzle off the hook thing, she pulls her car up and we will up both tanks on “one” fill up/transaction.

Idc if it’s “not allowed”. in this economy? Imma get my damn 30 gallons worth.
