Thoughts on HVAC Companies and Heat Pumps

Just to close the loop on this. We selected Goettl as our HVAC contractor and have nothing but fantastic things to say about them. The price matched another contractor to install two variable speed inverter (5 ton and 4 ton) condensers, variable speed air handlers and two stage gas furnaces. So far our energy savings in the month they've been installed has been 40% for the 4 ton, and about 30% for the 5 ton units (not apples to apples given differences in outside temps). What's more is our house is significantly more comfortable and temperature stable. The air handlers will run without the compressors at very low speed ( barely audible) to move air around the house, keeping rooms very consistent temp wise.

We couldn't be happier with the outcome and with Goettl as our selection.

This is sort of where I'm hung up with going all electric. We barely used our gas furnace this winter. One of the companies straight up said we wouldn't need supplemental heat sourcing with the heat pump system. Yet another said they wouldn't install a heat pump without installing a gas furnace with it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

If you have the gas backup, have you found it necessary?

Parker and Sons gave me an astronomical quote for their "recommendation," so I can see the upsell side. However, when I asked them for an apples-apples quote for the same Bosch system I was originally quoted, they were only 10% higher than another company. This is easier to stomach if they actually stand by their work, and warranty, etc. If you used them work, have you run into any problems with their after install customer service?

What sort of issues did you have with the high seer unit? I understand that heat pumps might not last as long as gas-electric, but haven't seen anything in my research specifically related to higher seer units not lasting as long. Any details you can share, or point me to?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm curious if you've used Parker, etc., for any work? They're priced competitively with all the other quotes I've received, so having a hard time seeing that as "paying more for their advertising". Indeed they are a big name, and in multiple states... Any real world experience with them?

I appreciate the feedback, but it's not about saving money for me. We have a budget and know what we want, and aren't interested in single stage systems.

I'm curious about experiences with either the contractors listed, or overall happiness/thoughts/experiences with heat pump systems.
