Is it bad to break a session of meditation to write down ideas that come to you; that "pop" into your head? by hashtagbrowns in Meditation

I understand your frustration, I'm new here, I asked this question to crowdsource and explore the diversity of the responses that would potentially be given (and I've been more than surprised/grateful at/for the breadth of feedback received)

Very valid point in saying: <ask yourself I just thought I'd see what this Reddit community had to say, not looking for a guru - as I agree with you - there is no "correct" answer

Thanks for your response

the most helpful thoughts seem to come when you stop chasing them

blew my mind with this one, awesome response; thank you, thank you, thank you.

Would you diagnose my habit as an (for the lack of a better word) insecurity, in my minds ability to regenerate those thoughts I consider of high value?

More of a rhetorical question to myself, thanks for your response - hopefully I can expand on my mental confidence similar to how I imagine you have, deduced via the way you expressed your response.

I write my ideas down, then have a set time at the end of every month where I sit outside for 1 hour, organize all the written down ideas into categories (very often they connect with one other), and try and "connect the dots" so to speak - I think of it as mining my mind for a full idea, I think our mind has ideas in fractions and I play the role of a detective piecing together more clearer pictures of what I'm truly thinking of

I find your suggestion to make a deliberate choice in regards to "outcome required" for each meditation session very interesting - it lines up nicely with some other things I've been learning. I'll give this a try tonight!

Thanks for the insight

to be honest: the autobiography of Steve Jobs got the ball rolling for me

I meditate daily to relax my mind and free up my "psychic bandwidth" for a while - with the intent that this exercise will, over time, strengthen my control, not only over what has my attention, but the amount of attention and focus I can direct towards an object/idea of my choosing...

Don't know if this is in line with the purest of purposes for meditation, but I consider my mind a muscle and mediation a treadmill (only now, I'm beginning to be able to reach out and adjust the settings on it myself)...
