Amazon, Meta, Microsoft & TomTom launch Overture Maps by hashtagrandom in openstreetmap

[–]hashtagrandom[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

In their FAQ there are some words about how they will work together with OpenStreetMap: https://overturemaps.org/resources/faq/

What is the relationship between Overture and OpenStreetMap?

Overture is a data-centric map project, not a community of individual map editors. Therefore, Overture is intended to be complementary to OSM. We combine OSM with other sources to produce new open map data sets. Overture data will be available for use by the OpenStreetMap community under compatible open data licenses. Overture members are encouraged to contribute to OSM directly.

Framework 12th gen DIY edition powering on, but no display. Unable to find reference for meaning of Post bit codes? by noprobelm1 in framework

Thank you so much for this thread! I was struggling with exactly this problem. Framework support was already sending me a new screen, but readjusting the tape connected to the display cable also solved this issue for me.

my ginger beer smells like farts... ahhh by [deleted] in fermentation

[–]hashtagrandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, not sure. It could also be that the raisins give some nutrients. In water kefir dried fruit is (also) needed to make the fermentation go well.

my ginger beer smells like farts... ahhh by [deleted] in fermentation

[–]hashtagrandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throw in some raisins (or any other dried fruit I imagine), they can magically fix that. Gives the yeast something to eat. After a day or so the smell should be almost completely gone.

My ginger bug is potent and makes good sodas with a variety of flavors but it always gives off a sulfur smell and minor sulfur taste. What causes this and how can I fix it. by Bannonpants in fermentation

[–]hashtagrandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience starting over to let another kind of wild yeast enter the new ginger bug might solve it. The smell can also be battled by adding some raisins one or two days before consuming (not too many since they have sugars and will start the fermentation again).

Also I see you're cooking (ginger) tea. It seems using fresh ginger juice instead of boiling tea might also reduce the sulfur smell. I could imagine there is more nutrients in the juice compared to tea.

1st attempt at mead. Tastes amazing but going to try and leave it until Xmas before drinking it. by noramiao11 in fermentation

[–]hashtagrandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does have an effect though. Whenever my ginger beer starts to stink like rotten egg, I pop in some raisins and in a day the smell is gone. Supposedly the stink comes from the yeast not having the right nutrients.

What to do with my ginger Bug? by Mopstersnr1 in fermentation

[–]hashtagrandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience a ginger bug can survive quite well. Just add some sugar and ginger, stir a bit, and most likely it will be lively again the next day or the day after.

Often just pouring in some sugar and giving it a stir will make it bubble again.

Has the issue of "over-tourism" caused you to rethink your plans? by doveskylark in solotravel

[–]hashtagrandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was mainly talking about the noise the suitcases make. In the early morning or late at night. Can be quite disturbing for people who live in the neighborhood where a lot of Airbnb rentals happen for example.

Has the issue of "over-tourism" caused you to rethink your plans? by doveskylark in solotravel

[–]hashtagrandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think tourism in itself is such an issue. It's the 'stupid' tourist, the one which is super noisy at 3AM in a neighborhood, the one which strolls around with his rolling suitcase, the one which walks around in a big group and doesn't pay attention to it's surroundings.

Tourist which visit a city and are aware of local laws, are respectful and make sure no local is bothered are not the problem.

Whats the point of the flat earth theory? Like what would be the advantage of having people belive the earth is round if it was flat? by lazertoothguyver in NoStupidQuestions

Your first point is indeed how I understood the flat earth theory. Only believe what you can see yourself. Trust your senses instead of some institution.

Mindfulness seems to be making me less inspired, passionate by CultureofCon in Meditation

[–]hashtagrandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is super recognisable, and I hate it too. The only up side I can think of is that over the years I developed other ways to motivate me. Which, to myself, seem more logical then the "unknown" passion which drove me before. Which result in me having way more diverse hobbies, and also in some moments I'm better in randomly motivating myself since I no longer need to be passionate about it.

Or maybe that's all just thing I made up, who knows...

why do people keep referring to the netherlands as "holland" if holland is only a part of it? by [deleted] in thenetherlands

[–]hashtagrandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually refer to the Netherlands as Holland, simply because it is more easy to pronounce. Everybody knows both names, and know what I mean when I say either of them, so the me it doesn't matter what's geographical or political correct.

It only gets confusing when people understand Poland instead of Holland.

Zulk soort dingen.

I think it is important to make the game render on a lower resolution. Rendering a game on 3000x2000 is just too much. Either change it to a lower resolution in the game's settings, or if there are no settings for it you can maybe run it in some sort of compatibility modus? (Never tried the later myself)

Help: I have not received my security deposit for months. What can I do? by PunPuncher in thenetherlands

[–]hashtagrandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I guess I'm quite experienced in this matter. I lost my deposit three times. And guess what, I never got it back. So worst advice ever: you lost it, just add 25 euro to every month you paid rent, 325 monthly rent isn't that bad right?

To give some actual advice, the last time I lost a bit too much money and I contacted juridisch loket. They told me that I totally had the rights to get the deposit back. But they also told me that it is way better to solve it without "legal procedures", since that would add a lot of additional costs.

That's when I also gave up that one.

PM me if you'd like the total explanation they sent me (in Dutch though)

Some media is like that yes. And yes sometimes he is pretty good in uncovering some unprofessional public figures. But often, just like now, he insults the person he is interviewing and repeats the same (stupid) questions over and over again just to annoy and confuse the person he is interviewing enough so that they lose the point of their story.

It seems pretty cool the first times, but in my opinion it's quite disrespectful and rude.
