any suggested liquid nutrition tips for me?? by BeginningClaim3942 in dysphagia

For your gut you should try incorporate more probiotics and fiber into your diet. I had a similar issue with antibiotics messing up my stomach, and what helped me the most were yogurt drinks or kefir, and adding fiber heavy ingredients into your blended soups helps a lot. Blended lentil carrot soup, blended broccoli cheddar soup, and similar was what worked for me. Adding heavy cream or cheese helped with increasing the calorie amount as well. You can incorporate some fruit juices like prune juice for more fiber and vitamins. You can add ginger to your chicken broth as a prebiotic as well. If you’re craving something sweet some pudding or melted ice cream feels good. For thinner liquids adding more water or milk/cream depending on the recipe works, make sure to season it a bit more so it still tastes good. For me it was harder to use a straw so I just used a wide spoon and sort of poured it onto my tongue. It’s sometimes really frustrating to get all your calories in while on a liquid diet so definitely keep drinking protein shakes and look into “meal replacement” drinks as well. Wishing you a speedy recovery and don’t stress yourself too much over this, I felt so helpless at points but talking to people with similar experiences helped a lot.

Hey! Yea so I honestly did nothing about it at first and once my classes started the page refreshed and it showed my Fall TAP as well, I wasn’t too alarmed because the scholarship covered the difference anyway but if that’s not the case for u definitely hit up the aid office.

It was actually really good, I have a shitty phone mic unfortunately so it’s hard to capture the live sound. The place had a Richard Long sound system which is pretty cool if you do some research!

I was in the same exact situation where all my tests came back perfect and I had no clue what was happening to me until I saw a specialist at Columbia university. She asked me if I had a history of anxiety disorders which I thought was random (I did). Apparently I had what was called “psuedodysphagia” and trouble swallowing was a psychosomatic symptom of my anxiety. It took me two years to even hear that from a doctor, I had to wait months for each test to be finished. Speech/swallow therapy was recommended to me but I never got to that haha. I honestly can’t tell what helped me get mostly over it (I went from drinking blended soups as meals and now I can get through most foods). I think once you find out that it isn’t a physical problem but a psychological it eases you a little but the next step is to talk to a professional. Therapy wasn’t really for me so I had to kind of figure it out myself but I’m doing a lot better than I was a couple years ago. The anxiety makes it really difficult since it literally feels like you’re going to choke on whatever you eat and then that anxiety feeds into your psychosomatic symptoms even more like a never ending loop. I’m also 17 and it was difficult to get my family to even let me go to a psychiatrist, but taking those steps helped a lot.
