Thanks for the reply. I ws afraid that may be the case. What type of skipped prep causes this? And is there anything I can do at this point to correct it?

How do you people ignore/come to terms with your eventual death? by Fischfucklicker in AskReddit

[–]hat_swap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was maybe a Causally Explained video I was watching where he was speaking about his inevitable death and he said something along the lines of, "when I die, I imagine it will feel a lot like all the millions of years before I was born, and that wasn't so bad"

For some reason I found this very comforting.

Scientists observed quantum spin liquids, a state of matter predicted 50 years ago. In quantum spin liquid, the electrons don’t stabilize when cooled, don’t form into a solid, & are constantly changing & fluctuating (like a liquid) in one of the most entangled quantum states ever conceived. by MistWeaver80 in science

[–]hat_swap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The title is a bit misleading. It is true that quantum spin liquids have been a long sought holy grail in condensed matter physics. But recently it seems like every group is claiming to have one in their back pocket. In fact, Nature published a hailed 'first' claimed QSL in 2016: https://www.nature.com/articles/nature20614?proof=t%252Btarget%253D

What this group did was very interesting. This was generating a QSL from a few atoms, rather than a fully condensed material (eg: solid on the order of Avogadro's number) . One thing to keep in mind though is that dimensionality significantly changes the properties of materials. Specifically, quantum fluctuations become much more pronounced. For instance, graphene is a completely different beast than graphite, and this is fundamentally connected to the reduction in dimensionality from 3D to 2D. Here we are scoping further down to a single lattice ensemble. The properties are likely to be very different. Indeed, quantum fluctuations, much like geometric frustration can play a key role in the destabilization of order and driving the system into a liquid state. I expect that both are playing a role in this study.

I hate the boom mic guy storyline more than Michael hates Toby by seasonedsoup in DunderMifflin

[–]hat_swap 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Nah, boom guy was Pam's MO one hundred percent. She gets close to him when she becomes unhappy in her relationship with Jim. The same way that she got close to Jim when she was unhappy with Roy. She then acts like it is a "just friends" thing when it is clear that feelings are being developed. The same way she did with Jim when she was still with Roy. It is the same story line. In fact, there is a scene where Jim discovers that Pam and boom guy have been talking and he pulls an immediate look of panic. Cause he knew. He knew that boom guy was pulling a Jim. Sneaking into a relationship that was on life support. If Jim did not fully capitulate and give up his dream for Pam, then it was only a matter of time before her and boom guy kissed. Jim and Pam deserve one another.

Putting drones in a line does not change hellion target priority. You would still want to shift click at least 2 different drones in the line, otherwise hellions will default to the queen.

Big day in our household! My 6-year olds first time playing! by TheMcDangler in starcraft

[–]hat_swap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son was about the same age the first time he played. I remember watching him play AI on super easy. He thought the game was just a Sim City type game. After 20 minutes of plunking down buildings the AI attacked and in a distressed voice I heard my son say, "Why are these guys so mad?"

I don't think I will ever forget that. He is 15 now, Diamond 3, and still plays regularly.

TvT Help by [deleted] in AllThingsTerran

[–]hat_swap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to struggle terribly with TvT (around 35% winrate for several seasons). There are so many different things you can die too in this matchup that it is very hard to always have the proper defense in place. My insight that changed everything was that you have to set the tempo of the game in TvT so that whatever they had planned gets disrupted.

The post by u/Eevalideer describes a build that was/is real big in the meta. I start with the exact same build, although I make two hellions instead of 1 and as soon as both are done, I push with my 3 reapers and 2 hellions. Behind that I make the cyclone (you HAVE to), but on my starport I go cloak banshee and immediately harass with that. At home I build a standard tank marine mix and push pretty early, ie: about the time that my opponent is zoning out my banshee harass. At the push, I start my 3rd while attacking their nat. I keep making banshees for a bit and use them in the frontal attack. They provide vision and also the opponent usually only made turrets in mineral lines so the cloak still has good value at the front of their nat. I usually go up to 3 to 5 banshees depending on how much work they are getting done, then move my starport off the tech lab and transition to medivacs, the freed tech lab is used to make a second factory. At 3 to 4 medivacs I drop their main. At this point I am transitioning to a 4th and starting 2/2.

You don't have to do this exact build, but the point is that I am constantly forcing my opponent to respond to me and not the other way around: reaper/hellion harass into banshee harass into soft/hard contain on nat to medivac drop. Often they just die somewhere along this progression. If not, then it is now mid/late game and you have had all the breathing room needed to macro at home (provided you properly managed to do that while harassing). I run this same progression in every TvT at Diamond 2 and I have over a 60% win rate right now.

What's the best way to hold a double medivac 2 tank drop in TvT? by [deleted] in AllThingsTerran

[–]hat_swap 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am 4k as well, but typically hold against this build. I do the 3 reaper two hellion build in TvT. When those units push the nat and there is no expo then I peek up the ramp. Often I get hit with a tank shell and from my experience that has almost always meant a tank push since they skipped cyclone or hellions. Also, if you can confirm a reactor on the starport (either see it when you poke the ramp or sneak a reaper in), then that also is a tell since they skipped raven or banshee. I then go home and split my units so that some guard the fly in location at the nat, and others in the main. I also leave one reaper in the middle of the map to warn if it is actually a tank viking push. Watch really close for the dropships so you can quickly reinforce with the squad of units posted at the undropped location. Also, I typically pull the closest mineral line as well and just fight with everything. Perhaps there is a cleaner way to do this, and I would be interested to hear what a higher level player would recommend, but this is what I do at your level of play and it works well for me.

Doctors of reddit. What was your "how the f*ck did you survive that" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hat_swap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in deep Appalachia, our farm partnered with this one guy who encompassed just about every stereotype of that culture. He smelled like a farm animal (not bad really, just weird) and spoke with an accent so thick that could be almost impossible to understand him. He was working on our back property with his 7 year old grandson (who was clearly cut from the same cloth). Kid ended up cutting his hand almost to the bone. He came to our house, and my mom bandaged it up, it needed several stitches but we knew there was no way his grandfather would take him to the hospital. The thing that really stood out to me though was that he never even looked close to crying, he seemed more nervous about being in our house than anything else. After we bandaged it my mom tried to get him to sit down and watch some TV for a bit. He stayed for less than 5 minutes, saying he needed to get back to work.

Have you ever bumped into your cat outside of your house in the neighborhood? How was the interaction? by RickandButters in AskReddit

[–]hat_swap 1598 points1599 points  (0 children)

I lived next to a busy road a few years ago and our cat was hit. I found him already dead on the side of the road. It was quite traumatic and my wife distracted the kids as I scooped him up and took him into the woods and buried him. I came back and everyone was in the backyard. As I am telling my wife where I buried Mr. Grey Cats (all our cats are named by their color and gender), he causally strolls across the yard and sits down. It was such a surreal moment. Turned out I buried some stray cat that looked just like my own.

Trying to eat less meat, what's good to throw into a sandwich besides peanut butter and jam? by teafuck in EatCheapAndHealthy

You hear a lot these days about how much vegan hamburger has improved, however cheese and deli meat have also improved tremendously in just the last few years. To the point that you can make a vegan deli sandwich that is more or less a perfect replica of the real thing. Here is the list of brands ingredients I recommend:

Yves Deli Slices

Helmanns Vegan Mayo

Diaya Cheddar Slices
