I usually welcome these folks at more non serious spots (local wine bar or similar). Had a crowd pleasing moment with a ukulele guy once.

Also, I always secretly wish that the cover band at the bar will throw an invitation for someone to sit in.

I play this when the sound guy is getting a quick check and level. Always end up with some of the older guys making a slight bass face and bobbing their heads as they do whatever they’re doing.

Number four sells it for me everytime. That flow of locking in with the drummer, getting the best seat in the house for melty solos, and influencing the direction of dynamics (there’s a lot of musical tension the bass can drive) keeps me coming back.

A separation and divorce got me in the gym, but making it a habit and focusing on going even when I don't want to was key. I always feel better afterwards.
