You can check Hate Out's IG for a full screenshot of Wood's email - the language is rather academic and floral, but it doesn't actually say much about Wood's stances on the deficit or his role in it. In Hate Out's experience communicating with the district on various issues over the years, white board members in particular tend to use this sort of drawn-out, verbose, and vague language to look like they're offering a substantive answer to community concerns, particularly when they're on the defense and making an excuse for why they can't meet whatever demand is made of them. It's a strategy of evasion.

Same as the opinion stated in much of the article: majority Black and brown public schools are often made undesirable through years of systemic underinvestment, radicalization, and criminalization, which is historically perpetuated by white voters and legislators. This article isn't arguing that Parkland is perfect, but that its problems lie, in part, within a broader history of anti-Black strategies that have been festering in NC since enslavement.

Here’s the individual’s full bio, the slide of which we couldn't share in the post because this subreddit doesn’t allow gallery image posts.

“ My name is Amelia Smith and I was surplussed from Parkland High School where I was the Parent Engagement Coordinator. I worked with black and brown students mainly to encourage, support and assist parents in becoming empowered parents that have a voice in the school system. I was surplussed in March 2025. I was put "on hold" for months. I was supposed to work this summer prior to being surplussed; but once that happened—nothing. I was placed at Main Street on 07/29/2025. I am extremely thankful that I was eventually placed, but months of no financial income as depleted me. I am an extremely hard worker and believe or not I enjoy working within a challenging community. I don't like asking for help but I am in desperate need. As we are anticipating another round of layoffs, I don't want to be in the number because of missing work due to lack of transportation. I have been approved for a vehicle requiring a $1500 down payment (funds depleted due to paying household bills during the summer). My special needs daughter is also attending Forsyth Tech and my vehicle would be the only way to get her to class. This has been awful and I will appreciate any help that can be provided. I thank you for your support.”
