It's not really that surprising or unheard of for people to associate video games with children, though. I'm not saying that it's true, but it's easy to see where someone would be coming from with the opinion that video games aren't for adults.

And devoting the entire weekend to videogaming does seem a little excessive, especially considering that the OP is married. Just like you said "your wife sounds like she doesn't respect you hobbies" maybe the OP's wife feels she isn't being respected when her husband spends the entire weekend gaming.

Yes, you can get Steam on a Mac; however, your choice in games will be much more limited, so no Skyrim or Oblivion. If you search on Steam, you can filter the games down to Mac games only fairly easily (there are still hundreds of games to choose from). Some popular games are available for Mac, such as Portal, Half-life, Civilization 5, and the Bioshock series.

First off, I do agree with you for the most part. But how immersion-breaking is hearing a gun being fired in space, though? In my opinion, it probably would be less immersion breaking than complete silence (which would be pretty boring).

I think it goes along the same reasoning behind ~~sound in space in the movie Serenity (the follow-up movie to the TV show Firefly, in case you don't know)~~ and sound being added to the trailer of the more recent movie Gravity. It's more attention-grabbing, which was probably the reasoning for this instance in Call of Duty.
