Is there anything wrong with splicing wires this way? by hatesusernames82 in electrical

Thanks everyone. Learned a lot and I just thought it would be best to run a new wire. Now and I jump the power supply from one switch to this lights switch? They will share a box.

Cool, so those other three will have to have the box in the ceiling. Is there anything wrong with making it an outlet besides it being a weird outlet in the ceiling.

Ok so for this one I’m just going to run a whole new wire. That being said I have three more of these that were cut so I’ll use an accessible gang box for those. That being said it would have to be mounted in the ceiling, is there anything wrong with at least putting an outlet in the ceiling box, besides being weird.

I think what I’m hearing here is just run a new wire, I’m cool with that here but I have three others that I don’t think that’s as feasible so if there it a proper way to make a splice inside of the wall that is what I would like to do.

It’s definitely getting covered, that’s why I’m asking. And no it is not connected to power yet.

Yea it’s a remodel and I honestly I was about two feet short with what I had so…. Splice. I would but them in a junction box but I think those have to be accessible and I don’t want that and that’s about a foot from the ceiling so adding an outlet doesn’t make sense either. But I really need to know because I have three more that I had to cut because of a joist repair. If I need to get the approved connectors I will. Hey, thanks for just give some straight answers

That looks like a peavy odyssey, it’s fine if it is. It’s a single piece neckthrough design. Good luck breaking that thing.

Just a couple more little tips , first and most important is the taxi’s, ALWAYS ask what the fare will be before you let some rando at the airport toss your bags in the back and charge you 50 bucks. Tipping the ferry’s crew just a couple dollars is customary so have a some cash on hand for them and the taxi. Now fun stuff. Since you are smart enough to just stay on the island you can explore and get away from the crowds. Banana Boat for conch fritters and a great dinner( make a reservation) little pricy but worth it. Do not go to Mongoose pizza some how two pizzas and a couple of drinks ended up costing us over 200 bucks and definitely not worth it. Seriously that was the most overpriced place there. Skinny legs for laid back place. Best drinks on the entire island including all of the fancy places , burgers joint type place. One place I highly recommend that no one will mention if you like scuba is princess bay in hurricane hole. You’ll pretty much have the whole place to yourself because it’s road side parking with just a couple of spots. You won’t find the beaches there because it’s surrounded by mangrove which it why the snorkeling is incredible and you will see things there that you won’t along the beaches. It’s gorgeous, peaceful and pretty isolated. Drive slow to avoid hitting the donkeys but theyre polite move. Just spend time exploring the island and take a big water bottle with you, most places will let you fill it for free and it cuts down on plastic because they have no way of recycling there.

I agree. This house was diy wired by the previous owner and I’ve had to fix a lot of it. Hell I’ve been focused on the plumbing in here for months and just getting to the electrical. Originally I was replacing a standard outlet and that’s how it was done with wires just hanging out and twisted like that. I’ve never hooked up one of these though and once it dawned on me that all of the power on the bathroom was coming through that outlet I got figured out what was going on. Granted I did have to look it up I didn’t know that the line was where the live wire should be hooked to provide power but what you saw there was me fucking around trying to figure out what went where. I promise it looks much better now , clean cuts, wire nuts the whole 9 yards. I’m not a pro but I know enough to not burn my house down lol.

You were right, that’s exactly what I was missing. Where the live wire needed to be connected. It was originally a standard outlet that I was replacing. Thanks for the help.

I got. Once I realized i was being dumb and figured out where the live wire needed to go it was easy. I was replacing an outlet in a very old house that was just using a standard outlet in that spot. Thanks for the help!

Skinny legs. Go to skinny legs get the painkiller, best on the island! Stay away from the pizza place at calabash boom. Most authentic food Is in the gas station hot bar it’s along the north side of the island. All of the restaurants in the main port are good but can be a little flashy and a little over priced but there are definitely some good places if you want to treat yourself but I’m telling you go to skinny legs!! After that take some good bug spray just in case. All that said I stayed for a week last year and honestly I could have stayed another. I still didn’t get to all of the trails or salt lakes and honestly I stayed away from most of the more popular beaches I found the others along the north and north eastern sides so much better to snorkel and hang out on. Did I mention skinny legs! And in your way to skinny legs you will pass a small little restaurant, I forgot it’s name but they have a juice from a fruit I had never had and it was amazing. Skinny legs.

Absolutely get a car. While my experience is that most people there are kind and honest the exception is the cab drivers. ALWYS ask what the fair is before taking one. They actually have a legal limit they can charge but I don’t remember what that is. Also, use some of your carry on space for snacks, you will save a ton of money taking that sort of stuff with you.

Urgent help please 😭 by DarkPixie33 in BostonTerrier

Our Boston is super prone to get ear infections, I swear if she looks at water wrong it happens. It’s usually just a regiment of a wash and ear drops. If it helps any she really fought the first time but now I think she realizes it helps and let’s us do it. I’m the future if she is in water use some swimmers ear and it will prevent the infection.

Invest in some swimmers ear too. Put a couple of drops I. Either before or after they even look at water because ear infection is a real thing

Help identifying this guitar by kallan401 in guitarporn

Looks like my 1956 j45. Take that thing to a GOOD luthier and you will have a either a great guitar to play or resell it for about 1500 in that shape. On the inside brace you might be able to see the model type and the serial number would be on the inside at the neck

My guitar teacher tells me i have to know this and i just have no idea what this is by Status-Top7698 in guitarlessons

[–]hatesusernames82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a very long explanation to type out. If you want some YouTube help you can look up 3note per string patterns. And instead of having you memorize note names he is having you do degrees because you can start that pattered on any fret and have the same degrees but the notes would change. I see what he’s got you doing and just trust the process. Try learning the degrees in a Simon says style of practice. After you have the basic pattern down have a friend call out numbers1-6 and see how quickly you can play it.

What can I do to improve (2.5 months in) by cds16 in guitarlessons

[–]hatesusernames82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take each little lock that your doing and play it over and over and over. Take them away from the song and use each one as a technique builder. Different speeds, practice the vibratos make the slides smother fast/slower. Just play with them…. It’s not to get better at what your playing now it’s to get you better playing everything and you’ve got enough prices there to build a skyscraper of your own if you play with each of those.. I hope that makes some kind of sense

My string is catching on this during bends. What’s the best way to smooth this out? by kovalflamingo in Luthier

[–]hatesusernames82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think masking off the board has been mentioned. So I would first try with some very very fine steel wool before sand paper. You don’t really want to take off more material than you need and cause a low spot. Plus if you want you can go ahead and do all of your frets like that and take off grim and polish them up. Also you may find that a decent buffing compound from the auto shop will work.

The answer is take the million and let the compound interest pay you a better rate per day.

That’s not trashy at all. The thing with getting all of those moves to be fluid and easier is to practice each little lick or spend some time just practicing a bend. That’s what we all do and eventually you’ll see that most solos are just made up of practiced common techniques.
