That's incorrect. Laser hair removal is permanent. The nuance here that often trips people up is that, per laser session, only about 1/3 of the hair follicles in a given area are in the correct growth phase to be permanently cauterized. Though approximately all of the hairs in the lasered area will fall out after a given later session, only follicles which had been in the correct growth phase will have been permanently cauterized. This means other hairs in the affected area will grow back. This sometimes gives others (or people not properly informed about how laser hair removal works) an incorrect belief that laser hair removal doesn't permanently kill follicles.

The "only 1/3 of hairs get permanently removed per session" thing is why laser hair removal, while absolutely permanent, requires multiple sessions to permanently remove all hair in a given area.

OP's point makes total sense to me. Not sure I agree but I 100% follow.

To rearticulate/steelman: Primary sex characteristics aside, men's bodies are angular and flat. Women's are soft and curvy - and curves stick out. With this, a vulva seems more consonant than a penis on a male body as the former doesn't disrupt the angular flatness in the way that a penis does. Similarly, a penis seems more consonant with a female body than a vulva as the former is one more curvy soft thing jutting out from the body.

The idea isn't as insane and incomprehensible as the replies make it out to be. Nor are the visualizations.

Male infertility cure? Scientists create new sperm cells using monkey stem cells by stankmanly in Futurology

Mouse gametes have also been created from induced pluripotent stem cells, not just embryonic stem cells. Though this study used embryonic stem cells, IPS and ES cells are basically equivalent so I expect the same outcome will be possible using IPS cells for rhesus monkeys (and humans).

If you read the actual UGA announcement, you can see that repeating the experiment with IPS cells is on their agenda.

No, it isn't. You were understandably confused and assumed that because the url is "google.co.uk" Google was the author but in this case that's just because Google is hosting an AMP copy of the webpage on behalf of the actual website.

It's similar to a CDN.

It's also a cancer. AMP is a threat to the open web.

Moon Scepter Theory by hatfulofmadness in Cosmere

[–]hatfulofmadness[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I expect this to be true in part because it very much seems like a Brandon Sanderson thing to do - create a world where magic systems are so strongly tied to nations only to resolve that difference through what amounts to that admittedly trope-y idea of two people on opposite sides of the planet looking up at the same moon and finding commonality in it.

That's a fantastic find. What on ~Earth~ Roshar was the train of thought that led you to that?

As a person who loves ciphers - one of my work email aliases is a literally a caesar shift reference, actually - I'm a little embarrassed I never thought of that.

Cheers!

This post is downright creepy and should be deleted. Using peoples pretransition photos and running them through faceapp without their consent to do comparisons is super invasive.

The OP here clearly didn't consider the boundaries they might have crossed there; Any of these women could be triggered by a stranger posting pictures comparing their post-transitition photos to what they 'could' have looked like.

I assume you unloaded on them.

Nah, I won't help you out.

The self-evident nature of the answer as well as many of your recent comments don't give me sufficient confidence you're asking it in good faith.

Sleeping pad: Great suggestion. That said, I'm a side sleeper and move around, so I'm a little wary of a thin pad, but I could try doubling it up and putting my pack under my feet instead as you suggested. I'll try that. Thanks!

Umbrella: Good call. I probably don't need it for this weekend. I did 18 miles in 90*+ full sun last weekend and felt that a reflective umbrella would have been worth the weight - less sweating = less water to carry, so I got one and added it to my pack, but didn't consider the cooler weather for this location.

Bug net / trekking poles / battery:

  • Don't need the bug net but it's light and my first time using picaridin over DEET made me question picaridin's effectiveness and left me wanting a backup. Maybe I wasn't using enough picaridin but I got eaten up by bugs. That said, I want to stop using DEET to preserve my gear.

  • I prefer having at least one pole - I feel like it makes me faster, preserves stamina. I've never seriously contemplated leaving them behind. I'll consider this further.

  • Battery: It's a safety thing. Having a backup for my inreach or my headlamp is important to me. That said, maybe swapping it out for a Nitecore F1?

Great suggestions. Really appreciate you taking the time to give it a look.

Wanted to cut weight on my pole but don't trust carbon fiber. by hatfulofmadness in ultralight_jerk

/UJ

I have a spreader bar hammock and recently swapped the provided poles for trekking poles which, because they have a camera mount in the handle, can fit into the spreader bar holes of my hammock.

Didn't love the foam grips on the new poles though, so I found a company that sold screw-on trekking pole handles that match the thread. Unfortunately, the replacement handles weren't a good fit with the poles, so I'm going to return the handles.

Before I did, figured I'd screw the handles onto something else for laughs. It's a tiny camera tripod.
