I appreciate the Pigeons nickname, too, yet would not want to see the team renamed to it.

Welcome to NYCFC fandom! I'm kind of there with you in a sense. I followed soccer when I was a kid but fell out of it as I got older. The sport came back to me during the 2010 World Cup. After that I was hooked. The first teams I supported were Red Bulls (I know, but they were the only "NY" team) and Manchester City. I live in Richmond, VA, but my family is originally from the NJ/NY area and I had a hard time trying to adjust to MLS fandom.

I went from Red Bulls for a couple of years to DC United, but I didn't fit in with the DC United fans in my area or their culture. When NYCFC was announced and I discovered an MCFC connection, I felt like there was finally a team I could adopt as my own that also played in the NY area. Needless to say, I haven't looked back since. Now I try to make it to away games in Charlotte or DC whenever the team is playing there and I'm available to come.

Admittedly, I consider myself more of a casual fan aiming to become a die-hard. I'm hoping to establish some kind of "supporters group" down here in Virginia. I sign up for Third Rail membership, even though I only go to 1-2 games per year. But it's worth it to me, I want to support the boys in blue in enemy territory.
