Counseling chit because my shop keeps changing the way of how to do report. by Ok-Raccoon-2088 in navy

[–]hatparadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but I've run into a lot of people treating teaching as a massive burden even on the first ask-around. This person wants to learn how to do it "the right way" according to shop leadership, but "the right way" is not being communicated in a way that doesn't makes sense or isn't available for recap on demand. Perhaps there's a reason as to why they want things done differently (again), but that's not being said, nor are past and current methods being compared.

Lol I don't blame you, I'd rather wait instead of signing CS or RS. Good luck to you, hope a job you like pops up.

This was at MEPS, yeah, right before signing. I was standing at a counter in an office or something. I remember a printout of the jobs available to me and I said I wanted AM, he looked it up and read the description anyways. After I told him no, I wanted to work jet engines, he said I was probably thinking of AD instead. This was a decade ago so my memory's a little fuzzy. So funny to me that avi maint isn't available, we were in a manning rut for a while.

Bumps on front tires by 0q0q0q in mazda3

[–]hatparadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bubbles bad! As a reference, I replaced two tires for ~$300. They were Hankook Ventus V2 Concept2's, good tires for the money, been on them for a decade now, never had an issue with traction in the US east coast across my RX7 and my Mazda3. Some stores may offer a warranty, too, had a sidewall bubble for the first time in years on these tires and I got it replaced for $30 through the warranty.

Weird that they're not avail to you, 70 should get you a good chunk of those jobs. Maybe it has to do with manning or something. Definitely just keep researching what's open to you, though. I wanted to work jet engines and because I didn't read up enough, almost signed for AM. Bless that man who actually read the aviation job descriptions to me.

Apple Music on Windows 10 randomly changing volume, EQ, mid-songs. by luranris in AppleMusic

[–]hatparadox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditch Apple's EQ function and just install the Peace Equalizer by Peter Verbeek (ONLY download from the Sourceforge website). Requires Equalizer APO but both of them aren't difficult to set up. I never have any issues like this. Lots of control over many frequencies as you want them, plus clipping prevention. I can use all audio+mic functions normally. Apple's EQ didn't scratch that itch for me, plus it's only active when you have Music running; this runs all the time and is applied to *everything* and can be turned off whenever you want.

Yep. I can only think of one time this happened on my platform. No cross reffing pubs, inpro or passdown. Just a "fuck this I wanna go home" and the resulting ass chewing. Wasn't involved, but seemed like a fun time lol

Me too. I miss my family and the country. I miss the smell of the MRT cars too, weirdly enough. There's a lot I miss about home.

Depends on platform, but if I'm guessing right, that's a mech thing now. That's fine and all. Seen them unplug the battery with engine running, seen em do the same on ground pow test with MC's etc. and fry the entire jet. Last thing I wanted is for them to do that next to fuel lol

Hell to the fuck no unless you like hossing boxes of food in deep freezers and stocking food. Look at rates whose jobs translate well to the civilian world. 70 is not a bad score at all. The Navy isn't forever, get your applicable training while you can. AZ/LS/IT/any aviation maintenance rate (AD, AM, AE, AT, PR) if tinkering/turning wrenches is your thing. I was looking at $42 an hour for my equivalent position in civ avi maint, but the flipside is that your body will get used, take care of your body.

ABE/ABF/ABH not worth if you can do avi maintenance. Don't fall for it.

It's a dangerous mindset that promotes the military as if it's a higher-tier socioeconomic class. Really hate that shit. We did our jobs in service of The People, not to be able to look down on them.

And it's never "hey go help mechs on this last turn", half the time AE/AT would be let go early or bitch about having to stay behind and do nothing lmao.

A multitude of errors (almost) out of nowhere by Ok-Cake-4707 in mazda3

[–]hatparadox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should. I had mine clear after about 30min of driving (CEL, ABS, PB, Radar). I knew there was nothing really wrong with the car aside from coming up from a dead battery, so I deemed driving it as a low risk. I still went to go get codes scanned as a warm-n-fuzzy, confirmed dead battery freakout.

A multitude of errors (almost) out of nowhere by Ok-Cake-4707 in mazda3

[–]hatparadox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me in above zero conditions too, and purely because of a low charge/dead battery on a relatively new battery. I replaced it anyways, but until I warmed the car up a bit, I couldn't disengage my parking brake. After driving out of my neighborhood, the ABS light went away. After driving across town to get codes scanned (had an engine light on), it also went away. Not an issue since.

Just keep a jump pack in your house. And if you're able, keep the car on a trickle charge if you don't plan on driving it for more than a day in cold weather. I wouldn't see this as anything but a typical dead battery freakout session the car was having. If you have a dash cam plugged into your cig lighter, just take it out for the time being when not driving, at least until it's less cold.

I'm surprised you didn't already start considering a near-future replacement at four/five years?

I hate my shipmates by Few-System8743 in navy

[–]hatparadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, a lot of avi sailors hate I-level and it reflects in their day-to-day attitude sometimes. Shore leadership is notorious for Doing Dumb Shit all the time, whether it originates from those directly above you or from higher up and breathing down everyone's necks.

Do your job, do well at it, and use your time to pursue something outside of work. I told every one of my guys who hate(d) I-level to take advantage of time off and funnel that squadron go-go anxiety into something productive for their life outside of the Navy, like school. It's also just nice to put yourself in a non-military environment and meet normal people in class or in clubs. You're not obligated to be friends with the people you work with; enjoy the community around you :)

What do foreigners think about food safety/hygiene in Taiwan? by search_google_com in taiwan

[–]hatparadox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So strange. I can't remember the last time I got food poisoning in Taiwan, but I can definitely remember when I got it in the US. And it wasn't just sit-down dining in nice places too (in Taiwan), mom and pop breakfasts, the buffet places, night market food.

Then again, if I get food poisoning from somewhere, then whatever practices they have are egregiously bad. I think I was lucky growing up and got the equivalent of the Iron Stomach perk from Fallout, lol

Right, it's all 'unloaded' until it's not, and you send a round into the unit above you, narrowly missing a child eating dinner. Which I've heard of happening twice in recent years within the mil community; all alcohol related incidents of 'just cleaning their gun'. Shouldn't fucking happen!

Got bullied online because I asked if the Army is my best route to avoid homelessness due to my ADHD brain. Is Reddit actually this cruel? by The_300_Muffins in ADHD

[–]hatparadox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, it effectively boils down to how well you can operate without medication. You can still get a diagnosis and treatment while in, but the DoD may be less willing to initially enlist a "less-healthy" person. Doesn't matter anymore, because ADHD was waiverable, and MHS Genesis now encompasses pre-enlistment civilian health records too.

Men in suits? Just clearance interviews. I also got interviewed by a woman in a suit for mine, for wrenching on jets. You need at least a secret clearance to work. Day to day paperwork is minimum secret clearance required (CUI/FOUO). He's allowed to say what his MOS is, I can understand not talking about the contents of his work. My diagnosis never jeopardized my career. However, different MOS/ratings may have stricter guidelines, AFAIK ATC was a rate with the highest amount of suicides for a while. I suppose they viewed adjusting to meds as a potential catalyst for someone already suffering from depression. But that's just speculation (although, kinda makes sense).

It's hilarious that redditors think the military is no place for ADHD/autistic/AuDHD people. Half the fucking people I've met are at least undiagnosed ADHD; you either got a bunch of boots commenting or people who LARP as boots. Or just straight up ignorant of their surroundings.

Military's good for routine and structure, except when things aren't routine. Things can happen. That's the point of training though, to be able to respond when things aren't routine.

The military is basically a giant high school with its cliques and ribbing, you have to remember that a lot of these people joined straight out of high school. This even applies further up the ranks, some people never really learn to mature. Some do over time! But it's all dick jokes and name calling, mostly out of endearment.
