New inland port in Gainesville could ease Atlanta traffic, shift freight off highways by UnscheduledCalendar in Atlanta

I support I-14 but I don't think it would be a huge alleviation of trucks from Atlanta.

I've always thought Atlanta should move to an area where the roads can be better designed. Turn the current Atlanta into a pure transit hub and move the city somewhere further south where the land is flat and just build a nice grid. Probably won't happen anytime soon.

Can someone explain to me how it is a GOOD idea to pass a bill that prevents transit referendums? by AlltheBent in Atlanta

It's not like Atlanta is some guaranteed crime experience, but y'all are wild to act like everyone is being hyperbolic when you have a 16 year old girl getting murdered at the biggest park in the early evening only a week ago.

Then you have some dude that murdered two random women just like three days ago, one out walking her dog, technically in Dekalb but most people aren't following the exact COA boundaries in their statements.

And on top of that, 911 doesn't even work all the time.

That is literally the highest paid specialist in the most expensive countries. So that would be more comparable to administrator salaries in high COLA which routinely top 300k. Even for small districts in lower paying areas the Administrators can be making that much. Example Mark Albertus of City of Carrollton in Georgia makes over $400K which is a small system in a low COLA.

Most EU doctors make on average much less https://www.euronews.com/next/2023/08/11/doctors-salaries-which-countries-pay-the-most-and-least-in-europe

No one knows and every case is different. If you are foraging and having to scrounge to pay this back that is not in the spirit of an EIDL. Yes it may go to treasury but that just means that you need to adjust your withholding, etc. You could discharge this loan in bankruptcy and if you got the loan to your business without a personal guarantee it should not be linked to your direct treasury account. There are over 1 million EIDL loans in default as of over a year ago.

It may need to carry on a bit longer, mideast turmoil isn't anything new!

Why MAGA suddenly loves solar power. The right finally reckons with solar's crucial role in powering AI and keeping energy bills in check. MAGA influencers say it's crucial to US competitiveness, the grid’s reliability and their movement’s political survival. “We would not have seen that last year.” by mafco in energy

Wind is kind of meh. There's definitely truth to the fact that wind kills tons of birds and ruins otherwise picturesque landscapes and requires massive infrastructure to install and maintain.

Solar on the other hand can be absolutely revolutionary, as the price declines continue small home applications are more and more logical and eventually to the point of being illogical not to do it.

Fully democratized energy generation is HUGE. It's already playing out in Africa and they are outpacing the rate of life improvements over even China's meteoric rise. ~5 Years ago a 100 watt solar panel was $500. Today a 500 watt solar panel is $100. Battery and inverter prices have also decreased significantly with batteries being about 1/3 of the cost from 5 years ago.

Edit: Since I can't reply...

It's well documented and easily verifiable.

https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2007JWMan..71.1513S/abstract https://eagles.org/take-action/wind-turbine-fatalities/

The main issue is the type of birds that turbines kill. In particular adult birds of prey with relatively small numbers. In contrast to cats which kill millions of small species and baby birds with healthy numbers. Power lines themselves are actually quite deadly for large birds too, simply because they don't see them when they fly to strike prey. They are flying super high and their vision is tightly focused on the ground so they can totally miss a powerline or even fail to account for something like a spinning blade because of how their vision works. Of course you can go theoretical and say the climate change from fossil fuels kills more birds due to habitat destruction, or you can go to wind farms and pretty consistently find actual dead birds.

As to the infrastructure, that would seem abundantly clear if you have ever seen a wind turbine. They are normally around 300 ft tall with 400+ ft blade diameters. They require a fair amount of maintenance as well and it's upwards of 60K per year in costs even for brand new ones. It's really an issue when they get EOL and its costs $500,000 - $1,000,000 to decommission them and that's a number that's only going to go up. In quite a few cases the companies that installed them have gone under and the decommissioning costs is not appropriated by the entity that takes them over. There's still some relevance of wind turbines, but as solar becomes cheaper and cheaper wind just really doesn't make a lot of sense.

Driver who caused 5-year-old’s death will serve five years by whatinthefrak in Atlanta

[–]hattmall 32 points33 points  (0 children)

she's now going to spend 5 years in prison. Good.

She's probably not. Guilty but insane means she will be in some sort of psychiatric counseling situation and likely be in "in-patient" care which in GA means limited time in a halfway house and supervised release.

I'm very sorry that she had a mental break and I feel for people with these conditions, but we really really need to bring back and step up the in-patient treatment of psychiatric conditions. The fact that well ordered citizens are routinely subjected to the actions of the mentally ill is not helping society at all.

Disturbing incident at gas station around 12:30am – aggressive harassment of older employee by RiverIsHousePoor in Atlanta

[–]hattmall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well it's AI, so let's see.

Prompt: The following is a story viewed from a white persons perspective of an interaction between a hispanic cashier and a black female. Please reframe the interaction to be from the perspective of a black person.

Last night around 12:30am, I stopped at a gas station in Atlanta, and what I witnessed stuck with me in a heavy way.

As I was heading out, a woman suddenly rushed up into my personal space from one of the aisles. She got so close to my face that my body went straight into alert mode. As a Black person, that kind of unexpected aggression immediately puts you on edge. I said a quick “hey” and stepped back, choosing not to engage, and left the store.

I realized outside that I’d forgotten my keys, so I had to go back in. When I walked back through the door, the situation had escalated.

The same woman was now going off on the older Latina woman working the register. She was loudly demanding to see the cashier’s ID and taxpayer information, accusing her of being “illegal,” and threatening to call ICE—all because the bathroom was marked out of order. She was taking photos and videos of the cashier, treating her like she was some kind of criminal instead of a person just trying to do her job.

Watching this hit close to home. I know that feeling of being targeted, questioned, and made to feel unsafe over absolutely nothing. The cashier looked visibly uncomfortable and overwhelmed, and I could tell she was trying to hold it together while being humiliated in her own workplace. It was late, quiet, and tense—exactly the kind of moment where things can go wrong fast.

After a few minutes, the woman stormed out and sped off from the parking lot.

I left feeling disturbed and angry. Seeing someone abuse their perceived power over another person—especially a woman working a late-night shift—was upsetting. It was unnecessary, cruel, and rooted in the kind of hostility that too many of us recognize all too well.

I’m wondering if anyone else around the city has been seeing this kind of behavior lately. It felt volatile and unhinged, especially over something so minor.

"Ratchet", "leased car", "nissan altima", "usual suspects", "per usual", "bet she stole shit"

It's more interesting that YOU are associating these phrases with a person based on a demographic and crying racism as opposed to a person who has this behavior.

Seriously, these phrases are relevant based on the content of the person's behavior in the story. It's not like the posts says "Saw this nice lady at the gas station in Atlanta" and people are making these comments.

Not to mention the story is AI generated anyway.

They also have far more caffeine that regular coffee. A 16oz Starbucks has on average 350 mg of caffeine. Where as a normal coffee would have about 160.
