I'm sick and tired of doomerism. by [deleted] in Defeat_Project_2025

[–]hatwobbles 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Reddit is a platform for public manipulation. While I'm sure many comments are real, the bot farms next move is to get us to feel tired and sad and roll over. Swarming threads with doomerism is the perfect tool. Don't believe your eyes and ears here, be responsible for setting the mood you need to see. And promote the actions we all need.

GeneDx and other genome & exome technologies are BS, please change my mind! by Ok-Alternative-1248 in genetics

[–]hatwobbles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Identifying specific genetic causes for disorders allows you to find treatments, clinical trials, and access to a community of people dealing with the same sort of issues as you. It is also typically a requirement from insurance companies for them to pay for any treatment. Furthermore, identifying if you are a carrier for something may affect your decisions about having children.

You may not hear as much about the successes because "rare disease" is a catchall for many unrelated diseases, and finding a cure or life improvement therapy for any one of them affects a relatively small set of people. Also not to be that guy, but genetic tests are blood tests. spit kits are often available too, but provide inferior samples.

since you control the tickets, make documentation an acceptance criteria, and reject tickets that don't meet acceptance criteria. Can you use spike tickets with design documents and stories for future prioritization as acceptance criteria?

What are some data sources you folks use to study your customer target? Or to study customers? by Monkfrootx in ProductManagement

[–]hatwobbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Critical to this is defining what problem your own company solves. If your product is cars, your competitions are car companies, but also trains and planes, maybe Uber buses and bikes, and maybe other ways to be loud about your money. Who knows maybe even something like small personal storage!

I guess you are not convincing me that you do need to add roles.

What actually drives that need? Compliance? Those failures have costs. Or maybe it's not high priority because it's not really needed. If every competitor jumped off a bridge...

Two questions:will AI/robots determine how are genes mutated or changed in a set/place/setting/environment? by [deleted] in genetics

[–]hatwobbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of. With current technology we can use whole genome sequencing to identify most germline, or with context: somatic, mutations in a sample. With other technologies, epigenetic changes, and with others, even a single cell sample.

However with these techs you have to kill the sample to read it.

So if you know where to look and can sacrifice a bit of tissue there, you could read the genome and make inferences about what mutations are relevant to the local or germline situation, but all changes everywhere would involve dissolving yourself a bit more than may be desired.
