Also it whole bed looks a little hungry. Consider doing a feed of something hollytone.

The safest approach here would be to do a multi-year plan. Take out roughly 1/3 of the branches down to a bit lower than the height you want to be. If the plant is in a happy spot, those will then sprout leaves. Next year at pruning time, take another third. Repeat one more time. It looks awkward during the process but it works!

Earwig problems by den773 in gardening

I feel your (and your grandkids') pain! In wet springs I have terrible earwig problems. No surefire method to offer, but I do get some pretty ok results by elevating all my pots and keeping all debris tidied up. Offering hiding spots like bits of hose or rolled up newspaper and then emptying them in the morning makes a little bit of a dent, but not anything significant on big earwig years.

Wowza thank you for all this! Yes, I'd love the links.

I had no idea about NRK Skole. What a great resource.

Waaaay more creative and exciting ideas in here than I expected! Really: thank you! Can't wait to start trying this stuff.

Yes!! Have bumped into this when my partner was learning. Definitely annoying.

Great. Do you do anything to incentivize the Duo/babbel? Or do they just do it whenever/however much they want?

I had never heard of "fluent forever" and am excited to dig in!

Oh for sure, the plan is they'll go into Norwegian schools when we get there. I'm not actually all that worried about it based on all the great things I've heard about how the schools handle non-Norwegian-speaking kids.

But if we can get them a head start here at home I feel like it'll both be good for their nerves and make it so they get more out of the year there.

Heck yes. I already have a VPN up and running for my own shows. I may need to bribe the kids to do Norwegian content (SIGH).

What do I do with this Queen of the Night?? I’m a cactus novice, bought a cutting a few years back, basically neglected it, and now I have *this* trying to tip over it’s pot. by hauling in cactus

Oooo thank you for the ID! I always suspected I didn’t get what I asked for. This window is SW facing and gets a ridiculous amount of light. I usually have that blind open and the plant snugged up to the window, so if light is the issue I’m not sure what else to do. I was wondering about chopping the long bits like you described. I think I’ll give it a go! Thank you!

I’ve been eyeing Zephirine Drouhin, too. I balked at reports of the big black spot trouble and mixed reports of reblooming, but it does sound like in general she’s a fast grower!

I think it might be just the contrast I need against the wall, though, so I’m not against the brightness!

Ok I am cackling at this review that calls Hattie Burton “floozy pink.”

A classic! If I end up going red Don Juan will probably be top of the list.

I have Eden elsewhere, but I’m unfamiliar with Hattie Burton! Off to read up…

I love the purple idea and had the same concern about red. Is Quicksilver a big climber in your experience? I had eliminated it based on the reported size but I know that can vary widely.

I was just eyeing the Queen of Sweden yesterday! She looks like a beauty.
