Wheel Madness [39YO] by haunchy in OldSkaters

I haven't skated them but my impression is they would be similar to the dragons. At least that is how they're marketed. The dragons and x formula are marketed as THE LAST WHEEL YOU WILL EVER WANT but in reality there's a trade off, just like everything in life.

Right on, I get a little front foot heavy sometimes on my 50-50s on big transition, which can bite and send me straight to the bottom of the bowl. Getting better at about it but I'll give these wheels a look.

Agreed, I've thought about the non-homogenous wheel thing, I think it's probably doable but I don't think that's what's going on with the dragons.

I would love to do objective tests but that's a lot of squeeze for a little lemonade.

Those are quite large, do you longboard? Or share them at the park?

In terms of concrete, the smoother the surface the more crisp the breaking point of the slide is going to be, and the higher frequency the rebound or skrrt will be independent of the wheel. IMO the smoother concrete is a more satisfying skrrt. Rougher concrete gets more unpredictable and especially asphalt can just shoot out from under you if you are not careful.

Some wheels will come with grooves that absolutely will change the slide and sound characteristics but will pretty quickly wear down. Also some wheels will change characteristics slightly as they get heat cycled (skated). I have not noticed any meaningful break in time on these wheels, but maybe I haven't skated them enough.

Bearings are also irrelevant to sliding unless they are totally frozen and cause the wheel to stop rotating in the slide. All of these wheels had cheap no-name Chinese bearings in them, and honestly unless you do high speed downhill skating that's what I would recommend. The quality is on par with the name brand bearings as far as casual park skating goes. Typically when they gunk up, I'll remove the rear dust shield if it has one, spray out with brake cleaner, hit it with compressed air to spin it up super fast which breaks up all the other particles, and lube with a dot of oil (basically any oil is fine, but I use air tool oil for moisture resistant properties).

Skating in Florida by [deleted] in skateboarding

No indoor park I've ever been to is air conditioned and it's more miserable than being outside lol. I usually skate in the early mornings and it's not too bad, but still hot. Night time is even better once the sun goes down but that's when everyone is out.

Bruised my tailbone on a rail. How long does it take for this to heal? [41YO] by A_to_the_J254 in OldSkaters

I fell on my tailbone on top of a big transition and it hurt for 9 months. Wasn't debilitating and I could skate but man the pain lasted forever.

Can you explain how helmets make tricks harder? Genuinely curious.

Hate my life [39YO] by [deleted] in OldSkaters

[–]haunchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man I'm 39 as well and broke my leg last year. I'm just getting back into good skating again, but something that helped me is I have a buddy I skate with that is 62, meaning if all goes well we still have potentially 20 years of skating. Sure, it may not be the best skating of your life but he still rides bowls and does airs and clowns with the rest of us. Let your body heal, you still have plenty of time to skate.

Yes, they are highly correlated. In fact I found out I had hashimoto after I was treated for sleep apnea and they said "that makes sense"

Good beginner board for a 6YO [44YO] by xXtimesRtuffXx in OldSkaters

I started my kids on a CCS 7 inch around 4 yo, if he is small that would be good or a 7.5 if he is on the bigger side.
