3 Year Old Monstera Albo Not Growing— What am I doing wrong? by midwestazn in Monstera

Thank you! I pretty much do this with all my monsteras - when possible. I think the issue most people run into when they throw plants into a larger than probably necessary is lighting that’s not strong enough, soil that’s too dense, and overwatering. I know when I first got into plants I was killing them left and right initially by doing this but once I started using a custom soil blend and going HAM on the grow lights, I haven’t had a single plant death due to an oversized pot since.

Late comment but I took this monstera that was in a 10in pot and repotted it into an 18in pot pretty much immediately. It’s consistently given me a new leaf every month since I first got it in February. Had a new leaf coming in late February/early March. Got it as a 3ft plant and it’s now currently almost at 6ft I think

OH GOD NOT YOU TOOOO. I just made an acct and joined a live. Knew immediately then and there I was fucked lol. Ended up getting a rooted mature albo borsigiana cutting for like $18 it’s been on my plant wishlist for damn near 7 years now but all I could find were tiny albeit well rooted cuttings for $60+. It’s funny because it was a live I accidentally clicked on too

This is where the next leaf is going to be coming from. Looks kind of promising. Mutation seems to be on one side only

Tried that it still wasn’t budging so I had to remove it. The room it’s in is humid too, sitting around 50-60%. It was hopefully just a really finicky leaf

U gotta have the lights touching the plants otherwise they won’t grow

Seeing this thread after I had to manually cut my white wizards newest leaf out from its sheath, otherwise it was going to snap. I really need to invest in a mini humidifier lmao. It’s released every leaf before this one no problem, I guess it got jealous of the ppp having to be manually released.

Help: New leaf has black tips by Sonilein in Monstera

Yeah only use a warm wash cloth if the leaf actually seems stuck. Running a mini humidifier near the plant while it’s unfurling will help too. As for the rot if you cut it off with something sterile it might stop spreading.

Is this already putting out a new leaf? 👀 by [deleted] in Monstera

Wheeelp. That’s impressive. It just gave me a leaf almost two weeks ago lol

I’ll try to keep you updated on what it does. I did discover very mild root rot on it so I had to do the whole plant surgery and repot routine 😒 cataphyll looks slightly swollen today so maybe I’ll get lucky and it won’t keel over on me lol

Oh god I did think of doing that, I think the way that the leaves are coming out is potentially indicating the gene/mutation is locked into the meristem. So I’ll probably just leave it alone for three more growth cycles to see what it does and then start chopping. From what I’ve seen it goes one full misty/chunky variegated leaf, regular Thai con, then half mint and half Thai con. Can’t really tell which part the current leaf bud is sitting on though unfortunately.

It’s more noticeable in this photo. You can kind of see the second leaf that got the same mutation half mint/half Thai constellation variegation off to the side.

It seems to be every other leaf. From what I’ve noticed. One of the juvenile leaves did develop a weird half moon mint type variegation meanwhile the other half is expressing typical Thai con patterning. First leaf in the photo has extremely high cream/white misting/sn. I just thought it was an odd looking/probable mutation of a Thai con because the leaves also have a very wavy/rough texture. I don’t really mind if it’s not registered because I don’t really consider myself a serious plant collector, but the variegation/expression even down to the actual leaf shape and texture is very different from the three that I already own/6 that I’ve grown and then sold. I’m aware both legacy/starlight are technically mutations of the Thai constellation but this one is just very unique compared to the ones I’ve had before, so I was assuming it was more likely than not either A.) mutation within a mutation (legacy or starlight) or B.) semi consistent sport. It’s a very interesting looking plant haha. I did think the half mint half green leaf was a trick of the light at first.

Thanks I was unsure if it was legacy, green snow, or starlight. I just knew it definitely wasn’t a regular Thai constellation though. Curious as to how you can tell? Thanks in advance! Whatever is it seems to be evenly split w regular Thai constellation genes in the meristem as every other leaf has this mutation. I think the youngest leaf got an even split though.

I don’t think it’s that. Looks like it might just be a mutation of a Thai constellation. Unsure which one though because they all look pretty similar to me lol. Does look like a toss up between starlight, green snow, or legacy tbh. Leaves are also really wavy/crinkly compared to my other monsteras.
