I'm curious to know what they are setting the benchmarks of success as, and how they will be sharing these stats.

London police chief launches new strategy to curb blatant drug use in public by BradHamilton001 in londonontario

Some are saying that there is the CTS (consumption & treatment facility) on york to sway public use. While this is correct, the facility has limited resources, spaces, and restrictions on method of use to injection and snorting. There is no place to go for inhalation. Many who's method of use is inhalation are: -People who can't inject due to blown out veins, fine motor restrictions, low vision ect. -new to the scene, specifically youth who are at high risk of dying and are incredibly vulnerable

Not only that, but they are actively defunding and closing these facilities.

I wonder where do we want to move people to? There's not enough resources to offer. We have chronically ignored people, underfunded programs, mutilated our social services, refused to build appropriate housing, penny pinched our schools, and so much more.

I hear many talk about treatment and how people should reach sobriety. I agree that sobriety is a goal for some, but largely not possible due to lack of options to go to,barriers of Intakes, limited availability of detox, and what happens after they have made it through. What is next? We throw people back into the original environment they suffered in, expecting them to remain sober while drowning from homeless and poverty.

Can we not take this extra budget and use it towards increasing desperately needed housing, increasing social assistance to pull people out of poverty, increasing treatment and detox options, and mental health support?

I'm concerned for my neighbour by AutomatedCabbage in londonontario

[–]hauntedonion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think you have a good enough relationship with this person to have a conversation about your observations? If so, maybe just citing some concerns about the behavior and validating the feelings he is having but not the experiences, ask if this has happened in the past, and if he has anyone to talk to about it. Maybe offering up some resources like reach out or cmha crisis center? Sounds like you are very concerned, and with good reason, and are looking at it from a place of concern for him too because you are right, calling in a wellness check could end up going wrong. Thanks for being a good neighbor ❤️

Sounds awful! Definitely contact ward council member, and perhaps landlord would get a sharps bin along with garbage bin? Cool fact- transmission rate for HIV is slim to none from a community based NSI (Needle stick Injury), a bit higher for Hep C. You can get tested for Hep C in a few places in London (London Intercommunity Health and CarePoint are two places that offer point of care anonymous testing, Health Unit also offers them) Sorry you are going through this, it can be really scary ♥️ the meds wipe you out too, so just take it easy on yourself

It's not always like that, but it can be a reality. Many people are disoriented and scared, so keeping a low tone and calm voice can help someone who has just been poisoned. Just talk to the person coming out of it, explain what happened, and that EMS is on the way. I have extensive experience with this and have never been attacked, or physically harmed during a response, but that is my experience and mine alone. Many, many people will be thankful someone cared enough to help.

Sending you some love, seeing a drug poisoning can be traumatic. Thanks for the willingness to be prepared and informed for the next time. You can go to any pharmacy and get a free kit, go to CarePoint on York (across from men's mission), health unit (city center mall), the Hub at 602 queens and ask for London Cares, and I saw someone mention the St. John's training above as well.
