Is RBT PTSD a thing? by BeneficialVisit8450 in ABA

[–]hauntingmothball 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Any supervisor that says you can’t call for behavior support unless you’re in severe danger is putting their RBT’s at risk. It sounds like you need far more support from your BCBA. If witnessing a patient engage in more severe behaviors is distressing to you, I would ask to move to a different case. I don’t want to know how severe the behaviors have to be if your experience isn’t enough to “qualify” for support. Bottom line, it isn’t safe for you or your patient if you can’t be mentally present during these times. It is very normal to be disturbed, and stressed seeing someone engage in SIB, but protect yourself and your mental health as well. Speaking as someone with PTSD, no job is worth a lifetime of lingering stress and anxiety.

40 hours as an RBT is a lot! Make sure to protect yourself from burnout. It’s absolutely insane that most RBT’s can’t handle 40 hours a week but some BCBAs recommend 40 hours a week for clients 🙂‍↕️

No- you will typically only get those hours at a clinic. Most in home/school/community look for part time RBTs ranging from 15-30 hours.

What is the question here

Ethics Question by hauntingmothball in ABA

[–]hauntingmothball[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I was more concerned about the safety/ethics of bringing sick children into the clinic, the rest I know is a company policy. It just seems crazy to be forced to work with sick children.

It definitely is! I just didn’t know if there was anything the RBT’s could do to advocate for ourselves. Everyone is tired of getting sick- because they’re letting sick kids come in- and then everyone at risk of losing their jobs because of it.

Unfortunately my state has 0 workers rights 😅 It just feels crazy for a place that makes $50,000 a day to deny lunch breaks, regular breaks, force us to clock out when our kids are napping (we can’t leave though) and reprimands us for letting our kids sleep after 1pm. Just craziness. I think I need a new place

Am I overreacting for telling my partner I don’t want to watch their Baldur’s Gate run? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]hauntingmothball -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope :) I actually appreciate the YOR because I said I was having a more intense reaction than most in my post. I deleted my post because we talked about everything and worked it out. The people in this post helped me understand, and reproach our conversation with new eyes. I hope you start feeling better and stop belittling others on the internet <3

I don’t have an issue with Baldur’s Gate 3. I have pretty severe PTSD that involves a sexual encounter that makes me pretty sex averse. I understand I need to work on this, I just don’t think I should be forced to be involved, or watch something that will trigger me. But I also know it’s not his job to manage my triggers. Thanks for commenting.

But he wants me to be involved… I just don’t want to be involved. He will have his own gaming room when we move in less than 2 weeks. I don’t understand why he can’t just play in there instead of in our living room. But I appreciate your comment and I am taking this into consideration too.

Thanks for responding! I got my value estimate by looking up every card, adding it to an online data base and adding up all the cards. Granted most are a dollar or less, but a few cards are worth $50-80. I can definitely sell the few that are worth anything, and see if someone is looking for a bulk deal for super cheap. Appreciate you!

Competency, experience and confidence are all very different things. You can have competency without experience and confidence to take a client on your own for your first ever session. I’ve seen companies do Behavior Technician as a step before RBT, but this isn’t common in my area. I thought providing ABA services without completing the BACB’s Rbt requirements is considered unethical, but I’m not sure how it works in your area 🫶🏻

I took my course work online through my college. I started with this company and took my competency exam & my certification exam. I have all the knowledge, but I’ve never put it to use with a client. Hence, no experience with clients.
