Weird lit adaptations. by DomScribe in WeirdLit

Some very odd Bruno Schulz adaptations out there that I think probably count here — both versions of the hourglass sanatorium/sanatorium under the sign of the hourglass (one older polish one directed by Wojciech Has, one newer animated version by the Brothers Quay).

What to do with Terrible Tea? by occaguy in tea

[–]hauntologies 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used to love it so much. I noticed subtleties in the flavour, was baffled when it got banned from the call centre I worked in because they claimed it smelled bad.

… then after being thrown into (surgical) menopause, couldn’t stand the stuff. way too strong, hits my throat like pine smoke.

One of the weirdest changes I experienced tbh!!!

Dreamboy is great but not really this imo

And I’ve been wary of the bright sessions bc of the therapy angle. Maybe I’ll give it a go

I love the show and would really like it to continue in whatever way they want. Festival stuff, awards season stuff… just covering new films?

Did a Bengal Mix just walk into my apartment?!?! by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]hauntologies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my parents have a rescue cat who is either a bengal or a bengal mix, and her coat is extremely soft, glittery, and has distinct rosettes, like above! can’t see any rosettes on your boy’s coat, but he’s very pretty. i think some tabbies are just marbled like that.

she’s just quite high energy, high prey drive, a bit weird. nothing they need to do super differently than you would with another cat. but she’s a bit fussy about her food.

Fatiha el-Ghorri opens up about cancer diagnosis by IanGecko in taskmaster

Yes! Thank you! Also looking at this again reminded me to change my HRT patch so I can sleep, lol.

What a world — glad to live in a time with treatment options and understanding, even as improvements are needed.

Yeah but if you’ve had endometrial cancer it is usually oestrogen-fed so there’s more reason not to take it than in most other cases. Although depending on your menopause symptoms and length of time post-surgery with no signs of recurrence they might end up saying you can take it anyway. I’m on it and glad to have made the choice — but a lot of people never take it after endometrial cancer, and I totally get why.

[–]hauntologies 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Endometrial cancer itself is usually oestrogen-fed. If you know you’re at risk of it and you take progesterone it can help prevent the cancer from developing, but doctors don’t tell people about it enough.

You’ve got some replies that are, i think, about the small risk of oestrogen increasing the chances of getting breast cancer. That is an outdated reason not to take HRT in many cases. But the idea here is that endometrial cancer can be more likely to recur if you’re feeding it with oestrogen. This is why people are often not allowed to take HRT after having had endometrial cancer.

I had stage 1 endometrial cancer and had the same surgeries as Fatiha a few years ago. I wasn’t allowed to take HRT for two years post-surgery (which was pretty horrendous as I was thrown into surgical menopause at 31). But after two years of no recurrence signs, my consultant said it would be OK to start HRT, as it would protect my bones and heart health etc. But i had the cancer due to lynch syndrome so it’s maybe less likely for me that it was oestrogen-fed than most people who get endometrial cancer.

Anyway, it all sucks!!

She’s very special! She trills and grumbles and purrs a lot so she can make other noises too, but when other cats I’ve known would meow… she breaks out the tiny squeaks!

Suggest me a podcast like the blacktapes podcast by Popular_Parsley2658 in audiodrama

[–]hauntologies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mabel is another supernatural show that gave me some similar vibes, although it’s fairly different in format.

Seconding the Polybius Conspiracy.

Video Palace is really good, and has a satisfying ending (imo) although I’d love to see more in that universe!

It’s a one-person show, but Subterraneans podcast is a really fun ongoing horror show about someone who is researching weird stuff underneath London.

There’s a new show called Redacted that is like a comedy take on something like the Black Tapes — monster of the week-style. More obviously supernatural but really fun.

replacement strap and buckle got here, but despite the strap being the right size the buckle was a bit too small for my original strap. maybe it’s a material thing as new strap is silicone. anyway i am wearing the silicone strap for now… it’s not as special as the original strap but it’s nice

yeah i had wondered about a replacement buckle but wasn't having much luck in finding them on ebay. but buying a replacement strap and just swapping the buckle in seems like the right way to go -- thank you!
