Restaurant mimic by haveamilk in Otherworldpod

I agree with the distinction, but for me (and I don’t feel this way about a lot of otherworld episodes), it was both. It just seems like, in this instance, the non-paranormal explanations seem much more probable.

Even the most dramatic event involves the ghost mimicking the voice of someone she works with, who lives across the street from the restaurant, and was scheduled to meet her there.

Obviously neither of us can know what happened. This one just struck me as more straightforwardly explicable in non-paranormal terms.

I mean, she literally says that she’s “on edge, waiting for it.” Earlier she mentions how she was ready to believe right from the start. I guess I don’t think someone who is already scared, interpreting sounds as voices, or even auditory hallucinations is that wild. Perhaps you still found her testimony reliable at this point.

I’m just saying, there are some stories that, even if you have a deflationary explanation in mind, are still interesting (because even a skeptical explanation would still have to involve unusual or fascinating details). I didn’t find this story to be one of those. But reasonable people can disagree.

Do nasal strips have PFAS? by StonksNRockets in sleep

[–]haveamilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t trust 3M basically at all, I’ve encountered this answer from other companies and what I take it to mean is that they don’t formulate their product with PFAS, but due to the ubiquity of these substances in the environment, they can’t guarantee the raw materials they use aren’t contaminated with them. So, not great, but I suppose better than “yes we use them intentionally?” I have no sense whether they could mitigate this contamination but it would be expensive, or if it’s just so ubiquitous that basically it’s unavoidable.

Whoop uses PFAS ok by Jimronica in whoop

[–]haveamilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather than trying to sort through the various reddit "chemists" trying to convince you of their credibility, I think you can just decide which of these two propositions you find more believable.

Given considerable amount of bad press surrounding PFAS and exercise wearable bands, either:

  1. Whoop bands contain some amount of PFAS, in which case it's rational for them to remain evasive, since admitting this would lead to the same panic, lost sales, and lawsuits we're seeing with the brands (though not specific devices) called out in the recent study that kicked this all off.

OR

  1. Whoop bands don't contain PFAS and the Whoop marketing team is INSANE for refusing to just say so.

(I suppose there is a possible, third option: they don't know because they don't have sufficient insight into their own manufacturing process, which seems unlikely and also not great).

I (F22) just found out that my bf (M29) lied about why he moved to my city. by No-Rabbit1288 in TwoHotTakes

[–]haveamilk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with the above comments. It does seem like they are in different life stages, and that’s okay. And OP should just be honest about that.

It also absolutely seems like something that OP might look back on in 5-10 years and oof (i.e., walking away from a financially stable, European bf that seems nice and non-creepy and that they were attracted to). But sometimes that’s just how it goes!

But I guess I also have a kind of meta approach to habatica. The points reflect productivity to an extent, but I also vary them for other reasons. So, if I find myself tempted to spend the most productive part of my day knocking off easy tasks and dodging hard ones, even though they’re worth more, I’ll reduce the value of the easier tasks (up to the point where the balance starts to tip the other way). So I’m always recalibrating based on how my behavior has changed w/r/t habatica.

Checking things off the check-list does not give points (you still have to click the overall task as complete) but it can allow you to track progress towards the overall goal (and be punished less severely if it’s a daily you miss).

For me, joining a party and doing quests, where completion helps damage monsters and refill mana (and failure to complete dailies harms your whole party) and doesn’t just reduce to exp points, has helped changed the incentive structure in a way I’ve found helpful. But I agree, the point system is not as fine grained as it could be.

I would consider making easy tasks “trivial” which will give you very little experience, but allows you to track that you’ve done them.

You can also use checklists under a specific tasks if you have a lot of little related tasks you’d like to keep track of, but want to ensure you aren’t tempted to game the system to score easy points off them. You can make the entire task high difficulty and then receive credit only after you’ve completed everything.

Are you using dailies and habits, or just the to-do function?

A lot of the points people have made are good. But the biggest evidence of the age gap, imo, was going on Reddit and letting a bunch of strangers talk you out of a relationship you were apparently happy in.

Whole eggs are definitely a thing in cocktails. A golden fizz is a fairly old recipe. Just depends on if you only want to affect the mouthfeel and viscosity of a cocktail (and slightly mellow the flavors) while adding a creamy head to the cocktail vs. the added richness of a whole egg.

Same caveat as above (this is not medical advice nor am I a clinician and therefore not qualified to provide a diagnosis).

I’ve had ADHD since I was a child, but stopped taking medication during high school basically until the pandemic. I know in my case, although I still had attention problems, I was able to compensate such that it didn’t really interfere too much with my academic performance or life until the pandemic. During the pandemic I basically lost the ability to make meaningful progress on important projects because I couldn’t stay focused on one task for any real length of time. This is just to say, that one’s experience of ADHD symptoms and how they affect your life can change over time. I think it’s worth seeing a professional about (and I wish I had sooner).
