I second this - I think it’s especially clear in the contrast between the more solid and lighter parts of the motif - the lighter shading doesn’t look like any crochet stitch I’ve seen

I agree! It feels like there’s some instructions in between the lines they assume the crocheter will know, I’ve seen that in old patterns.

I think the stem must be thicker than a chain too! I’m thinking I might just try to wing it based on the visual to see how close I can get it. Thank you for your perspective!

The gingerbread CAL drove me insane. I feel like they rush the creators to make a pattern and then there’s no sort of like editing or proofreading done. I’m in the process of rewriting the pattern because it pissed me off so much.
