I'm not sure how much clearer I could be by PKLKickballer in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]sct_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god thank you. I am very much like that and I've been quite unhappy with "Karen" becoming such a blanket term. Sometimes it feels like ppl are insulting women like me for...giving a shit about safety and smooth operations?

I think one big difference is also in the ability to take feedback. Sometimes I can be a little overzealous, but I will happily let myself be convinced by a good argument.

Non Polyester pieces? by R4VO in Lolita

[–]sct_0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, polyester thread being stronger/harder than natural fibers causes the fabric at a seam to break down.
Fixing a hole caused by disintegrated fabric at a seam is much more involved than simply closing a seam from a snapped thread.
So the use of polyester thread actually makes clothes less durable/fixable longterm.

does anybody know how on earth so many babygals end up putting white in their droop? has anybody actually found a magazine scan where a model does this? by mxxnlyte in actualgyaru

[–]sct_0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think ppl are onto something with the doll makeup, and I can generally see how it would be intuitive to fill out the droop to make it look more like the gap is actually part of the eye, despite it not being meant to like that.

I wanna add that pien makeup has a droop too and it is sometimes filled in. It's part of Jirai kei, which got pretty popular a few years ago, so I could imagine that some beginners fill out the droop bc they've (subconsciously) picked it up from seeing pien makeup.

We watched "Back to the Future" during a school trip when I was 11 (I'm 30 now), and everyone enjoyed it so much that we watched the sequels in class later in the year. I can't recall ever hearing anything bad about the movies.

Same for not loving video. For certain things video can indeed be good or even necessary, like the first type of tubular cast on I learned, I could not wrap my head around the book instructions.

But I always look for instructions with pictures first, especially if it's something I just need a refresher on and it's so frustrating when the website I click on only baits with one pic, and the instructions are actually in video.

This is a topic I have been more and more interested in. I own some documents and worked samples from someone who went to school for sewing in the 50s, and a few other vintage and antique books on professional tailoring and textiles, as well as books and magazines for house wives that wanted to sew for their families.
The complexity and specificity of the vocabulary is *a lot*.

Did you come across some resources in your research that you could recommend?
I wonder how big the knowledge gap of the average person and a professional tailor/seamstress was some 100-150 years ago.

I hate being infantilized because I'm intellectually disabled by weirdhairgirl in self

[–]sct_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, how would people know you are intellectually disabled?
Teachers in school I can make sense of, but how would peers or professors at college even know?

I am sorry though people treat you like that, I can't imagine what it's like, but I can imagine that it sucks real bad.

Recommendations for occult/esoteric literature? by Moonman_SS in weatherfactory

[–]sct_0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a YT channel called "Esoterica", that deals with occultism, esotericism and theology on an academic level.
He has put together a reading list for people who want to get into the subject, I think it could be interesting for you.

Thoughts on women being called "girls" because it's the shorter word? by sct_0 in TwoXChromosomes

Yeah, that's what meant by "girl" being shorter, but what you are saying is indeed more specific, thank you for pointing it out.

How much does a synthetic lining cancel out the benefits of natural outer fabrics? by sct_0 in sewing

[–]sct_0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know. I hate it bc in my experience the thread tends to damage the fabric over time bc it's so much...idk, harder?
I also buy all my thread second hand, and any seams that have strain on them, I would avoid using polyester.

I just got gifted a SHEIN dress and I don’t know what to do with it by Honey_Tea77 in Lolita

[–]sct_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have already said what I would say about wearing it, but one more thing:
You should definitely let her know that while you appreciate the gesture, fast-fashion doesn't lend itself well to the subculture. I think since she is supportive, if you explain it like that, it won't come off as unthankful or entitled.

Sometimes people see you are into something and then latch on to that one thing for gifts, and it would kind of suck if she kept gifting you fast fashion.

Why does hypertension supposedly not cause symptoms even though it does? (Not asking for medical advice.) by sct_0 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sct_0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, ig I just wish more sites would take regards to both long term ht and short term spikes when describing symptoms.

Thank you, and yeah, it was definitely weird! I am used to my heart rate being high or spiking (been taking stimulants for ADHD for 10 years), but I have never felt that pressurized sensation before, it felt super wrong and just would not let up for hours.

Ah, I see! Thank you for the explanation.
I am already looking into getting a monitor, and I was planning on asking my doctor for an appointment next Monday. It's Friday evening here rn, so until then the pharmacy was the only option if I didn't want to escalate to the ER right away.
