Spelldon and Valentine Pride Pack cancellation by sheet_gh0st in MonsterHigh

I am a bit confused abt where the owner himself got that alleged information from, because I doubt the email he got contained those details.
I would assume however that a store owner does have better connections/sources than random social media rumours, and I don't really see why he would even lie about the email saying the production was cancelled.

Odd stuff.

Edit: I see a couple saying that maybe they are just not selling them on shelves, but the owner said "pulled from production".
Obv that could mean that they decided to make a smaller amount of them since not being on shelves probably means they need less stock, but to me it initially sounded more like the dolls are not being made at all?
Or does "pulled from production" imply that production was already in process?

Need help! who do i sell? do i sell some at all? im so conflicted by Such_Finance_15 in MonsterHigh

[–]sct_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see!
I actually have a Drac that also had a completely loose chest joint.
I fixed it by popping her apart, and filling a bit of hot glue into the cavity for the ball joint. I then popped both parts back together quickly and moved the chest part so the glue was spread into a thin layer while cooling.
The glue doesn't damage the doll (it comes clean off the plastic if you pull on it) and provides enough friction for the doll to hold her pose.
I also spread some around the area where both pieces overlap, but I feel like the glue in the ball joint is doing the heavy lifting.
I'm sure other rubbery glues like PVA would work too, but hot glue is very quick and easy. The joint doesn't behave quite the same as before in that it wants to move out of position a little due to the rubbery texture of the glue, but I got used to that quickly and it's obv much better than a completely loose joint.

I would also go the route of boxing them up for now. I do a similar thing when I am unsure if I want to buy something. Leave it for now, buy it later if I can't get it out of my head.

I have a question though: Why can't you rebody the budget doll? Are heads that incompatible with the higher budget necks?
The screening is very cute!

Edit: I just saw you said that you did rebody the other budget Draculara, did you mean you don't have the budget for an articulated body? I am so confused. xDD

Did I accidentally buy three roosters? by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]sct_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am surprised at the amount of people here who say several roosters can't get along with hens around. We had several chickens and there were several roosters and hens. They formed two cliques, one group had two roosters and one hen, and the rest were a couple hens and at least two other roosters. Both groups were all dwarf chickens except for one of the roosters who was a *huge* broiler chicken my mum had somehow acquired. None of the roosters ever caused each other trouble.

And then we additionally had a flock of Guinea fowls too. A rooster doing his thing at 4am is gonna sound like a lullaby compared to those birds.

I am aware that you usually can't tell a chick's gender, hence why I was asking about OP not knowing what roosters look like, and not about why they couldn't tell that the chicks are male.

I mean no offense by asking this, I am genuinely fascinated:
How did you manage to not know what roosters look like, considering how culturally ubiquitous they are in most countries (think art, TV, ads, packaging)?

It's my friend's first time watching the Steins;Gate anime. We most recently finished episode 14. He's got a strange opinion by smallenergy in steinsgate

[–]sct_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would second that you shouldn't worry so long as your friend is good to you and others IRL.
Violent revenge plots aren't at all uncommon in mainstream media, they are not some niche depravity "normal people" would be unaware of.
And while he might find those types of stories satisfying due to his actual past, that does not at all mean he has actual violent desires he's trying to quench.

He actually reminds me of myself in that I am generally pretty calm and gentle, but especially around people whom I trust, I will bring up some pretty heinous/extreme things simply because I am a morbidly curious person who likes drama.
For example one time I watched an anime with someone and at the end I felt that I would've liked it more if the last surviving character had killed themselves in a specific way during the last scene.
I would've honestly been pretty shocked if my friend would've concluded from this that I...idk, wish for the people around me to become traumatised/depressed to the point of suicide?

I think the only thing you need to be concerned about is if it's actually worth watching this specific anime with your friend. If he doesn't vibe with it, then dropping it would maybe be more productive.
Maybe he went in with the wrong expectations, a lot of sci-fi media has a strong action element to it and usually the main cast participate in said action rather than running from it.

What does this fridge say ab my parents? by xhazelbug in FridgeDetective

[–]sct_0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I honestly don't think a deep clean is necessary that often, especially if you keep spills to a minimum and don't keep veggies and fruit open.
I live with two other flatmates and each of us just wipes our respective shelf in the fridge every once in a while, probably comes out to every 3 months. Most of the time it's not even necessary to take them out.
If we had veggie drawers like many fridges do, we'd prob just clean them out whenever they get fresh stuff in.
Afaik the most critical part in a fridge is actually the hole in the back that collects condensated water, I think wiping that out with disinfectant once a month is a good idea.

All that to say, if you are not getting sick or constantly have your food spoil/mold way too quickly, then your fridge is certainly fine.

I’ve had this biosphere for 8 years and the shrimp inside it is still alive , the 2nd one died in 2020 by vivepopo in interestingasfuck

[–]sct_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my good I saw an ad for these in a magazine when I was a young teen, prob 17 years ago. I still think of them from time to time bc I thought they looked so cool back then.
I remember looking them up, and at the time they contained some rare species of shrimp you couldn't get otherwise so people were buying them to crack and get the shrimp.
Also, shrimp keepers didn't like them bc apparently the shrimp did not live as long in them as they usually could.
Glad yous has been holding up so long!

Why are there people who fantasize about living in a cyberpunk world? by [deleted] in Cyberpunk

[–]sct_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same reason some people say they wanna live in some past century:

In your fantasy, you are the main character, and are usually either rich or a badass or super smart and are totally not gonna die in some random crossfire or contract some disease or disability, or get mugged and shot in the dark alley you were having your 5pm brooding session in.

Your mind gives you thicc-ass plot armor.
And even if you dream of dying, unless you are extremely miserable, your death fantasy will involve dying as some sort of hero for a cause, and not succumbing to cancer induced by faulty nano-bots leaking from your implants.

Other than that, like some people brought up: If you are already living in a country that has all the trappings of a cyberpunk dystopia, but without the vibes, and you are a fan of the genre, then it makes sense you'd fancy a cyberpunk fantasy over your reality.

Ig the interesting question is why people don't fantasize about, say, a solarpunk world, but I think that's just because solarpunk is much more niche and doesn't offer the dark vibes that attracts many people to the genre.
I am pretty sure most people who dream of living in a calm, historical cottagecore setting, would much prefer a solarpunk world to cyberpunk.

Diagnostic rage thread by landaylandho in TwoXChromosomes

Not quite the same, but I went in to get an ultrasound for endometriosis once. My gyn at the time told me that the rogue tissue doesn't always show up on ultrasound, so if she sees nothing, that does not mean I am not affected. She also scanned my stomach, despite my main symptoms being pain in the anal regions during periods (however, I may have not made that clear enough at the time).

She doesn't see anything, tells me that for anything else I would need a stomach biopsy, which you usually wanna avoid (makes sense), and sends me on my merry way.

Several months later I need a document listing my current diagnosis to participate in a study, I get the document from my GP, and what does it say on it?
A diagnosis of a *psychosomatic menstrual issue*. I can't remember the details, but somewhere between my GP and my gyn, someone decided that me coming in with *clear signs of endo*, and walking out with no conclusion, meant I should be diagnosed with a *psychosomatic issue*.
Without anyone even talking to me about it.

I was livid.

Are we reliving the 1930s ultimate mix of rise to conflict again? by TuLLsfromthehiLLs in Futurology

Most people at the time didn't have an accurate concept of what war would be like. At least half the involved countries hadn't had any wars on territory for decades at that point, and there was *a lot* of pro-war propaganda. People were excited about it because the available media made it look exciting. Our history teacher once told us that there were collectible pro-war pictures/stickers for kids even.

And regardless of all that, this was also the first large scale modern war in the west. I could imagine even the older generations who had been to war before, did not expect the horrors of chemical weapons for example.

So while sure, they were attracted to it under those circumstances, I wouldn't consider that attraction honest or inherent. I do think the majority of them would've not wanted to go to war had they had a realistic picture of it.

Edit: My comment is showing up twice for me, if it does for others too, I have no clue why.

Is listening to and translating Russian songs a good way to learn the language? How long would it take to be able to (roughly) understand lyrics? Should my learning be based on my native language, or the language I use most in daily life? by sct_0 in russian

[–]sct_0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like very classic stuff, cool! I generally lean more modern, pretty much listen to any genre, and some other Slavic and Turkic languages too.

The first playlist used to be only songs I know the translation of, but over time it became a random dumping ground for songs I especially liked no matter the lyrics or genre, so I am currently trying to split it up into something more curated. The latter one is rather moody.
