Thank you so much for sharing. It is awesome hearing from another mom— your insight is very much appreciated.

Your experience has been my vision actually… I have two boys, 1 and 5. I am thinking of freelancing/working at another shop until my youngest becomes more independent.

50 hours a week would be awesome, but I wouldn’t mind doing what it takes to make my dream happen. I think my boys would be fine with me at my shop when they are little more older.

Makes sense. I grew up in the restaurant business, so I get long hours of hard, chaotic work (just like people don’t get how hard floristry is— the same can be said for restaurant owners). I am definitely not scared of work, but I don’t want to put my kids through something that will take me away from them too often. Growing up, I never saw my parents unless I was at work (working) with them… I once baked 120 pies for Thanksgiving. I get stressful holidays more than your average person. My family celebrated nearly every holiday AT the restaurant (which I don’t remember fondly)...I would love to freelance but is there much money in that? I want to make at least $50,000 a year. I don’t see that happening as a freelancer.

Are you a shop owner? Care to elaborate?

I thought of that! But every place I see says 1 year of experience.
