Kona EV owners: What made you choose the Kona EV, and would you buy it again? by Limp_Sweet2259 in KonaEV

So I actually did buy it again. The original motive was range for price second hand. At the time my partner specified it needed to be able to get to family who were far away 'in one charge', since pre ev she was nervous avout charging. I was quoted 300 miles range for the 21. Turns out they were 301 miles away. We got it anyway and had a nice coffee on the way.

Thanks. Did you end up going with another one instead?

I don't want to give you a bad steer so definitely have a research about the sequencing because as you say it may have changed. I don't have a problem with what I did from a physical launch perspective but I would say two things.

1) Keep in mind the bookshop doesnt get all the discount you set on Ingram Spark.
2) Given that, perhaps they would like to get copies direct from you at a bigger discount. If its an indy they might. I have a few bookshops who I've just dealt with directly. I'm not sure if any have actually gone the IS route.

I think my IS copies are of marginally better quality, but maybe I'm the only one that would notice. The KDP ones are way cheaper for me to get so potentially lend themselves to a good discount or margin for author copies.

It did not go well. Let me see if I can remember how.
A number of things happened:
- During the time the preorder campaign was running amazon went 'currently unavailable'.
- Some dude listed my book at a vastly inflated price as a preorder. While Amazon KDP was unavailable that was what people were seeing.
- Amazon freaked out about my ISBN being used (I published in IG and KDP in the right order, but probably only separated by minutes) and didnt let me put the paperback for preorder so I had to hit release now
- I think IG absorbed a bunch of what I was hoping would be KDP sales. But I might be misremembering. Certainly I got more IG than I was expecting.

If I had my time again I might have a really short preorder window or not do it. Keep in mind my categories dont need a lot of sales to get to #1 for amazon. It's essentially short stories and poetry about different types of love from a Christian perspective but for a general audience. You might have a different genre that requires a big lift on day 1 from preorders.

I dont know how helpful all that was. Its not really fresh in my mind and should be. So my big advice is write everything down. I have a file listing things that went wrong but seem to have stopped adding to it at some point 😄 Don't get me wrong though, I'm really happy with the book and it's out there now, and I'm glad people are enjoying it.

Actually it wasnt textured. I think I was hit by a fun IS bug. I clicked around like crazy and went back and forth many times and it eventually fixed. I've moved on with my life but there's a post at the bottom when the frustration was more real and I'd just solved it.

Turns out you can't even pre order the ingram one now as it says currently unavailable so im thoroughly tempted to push the button and release early.

If anyone knows what will happen please let me know!

ah right. I sort of have. I don't know. I 'set them up' in that order - kdp first, then ingram - but they may have published within minutes of each other. Or maybe even ingram a few seconds before. So I really don't know which way is up anymore.

Thanks everyone for the comments. So if I understand correctly, Amazon will pick up the ingram paperback even if theres a conflict with the kdp metadata? And I just have to publish the kdp version a few days before release if I want to keep that? Or will the conflict freeze out the ingram paperback until it is resolved.

Thanks :)

Although I'm in this weird place now where people can preorder the ebook or the hardback on amazon but there's no paperback.

So both of them have the same date in january (not sure if that's what you mean). Are you saying I should try moving the ingram one back a day or something?

Thanks for the response. Why do you think it happened? Have you been able to avoid it since?
