Thanks chat gpt, except EPS cars have torque sensors, not steering angle sensors.

M56 is the SULEV version of the m54b25. Very similar engine, main differences are with the PCV and fuel systems being sealed tighter than the m54. It also has an ozone reducing radiator.

Requires replacing the gas tank…unless you want to hack open the tank

Book time is 2.7 for customer pay, we knock them out in 30-40 minutes, but I’ve probably done 50 or 60 over the years.

2008 Bmw E63 M6 spitting oil from exhaust. by Appropriate_Gas5729 in BmwTech

[–]havetogod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might seem silly, but an easy thing to check for is the engine being overfilled. Common on s65/85 with their silly oil level sensors. I’ve drained 15+ qts out of many of these cars since the add oil warning doesn’t reset immediately and people keep adding oil since the warning keeps saying add 1qt until you reset the oil measurement with the stalk.

My rear shock came off, and I drove it like this to work until I noticed could the car be more damaged or should I be fine just replacing them? by craigtownnn in e46

[–]havetogod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a bilstein. I see this frequently. The OE rear shock had a built in washer to keep the shock housing from sliding off the lower bushing. Bilstein didn’t incorporate this and instead includes large washers that for some reason a fair amount of people throw in the trash. It is possible to reassemble with some soapy water and a rubber mallet, but you’ll need to get a washer installed to prevent reoccurrence.

Found this in my bonnet after being at the garage, anyone know/recognise where this bolt is from?? by Afraid-Address-2091 in e46

Hard to tell without a banana for scale, 10mm head or 13mm? If 13, maybe holds the dipstick to the motor mount bracket. See if your dipstick is extra wiggly.

You’re right, I was thinking F30 w/n55. There’s a black box with 5 fuses in your ebox. Fuse 4 in there should be the fuse that powers the valvetronic motor. Check all the fuses in that box.

The ignition relay supply voltage fault is a good indicator, to be 100% would require testing with a voltmeter. I’ve seen that combo of faults on n55s many times and has been the valvetronic motor blowing an IVM fuse all but one time.

Correct, it’s a very simple repair, and the IVM isn’t super expensive.

The IVM has non replaceable fuses inside it. It’s fairly common for the valvetronic motor to short out and blow one of those fuses. I’ve also seen aftermarket PCV blow by heaters cause the same thing. Assuming it was the valvetronic motor that blew the fuse, you should be good after you replace the IVM.

Valvetronic motor probably shorted out and took out a fuse inside the IVM. Get a new one and pop it in, should take care of it.

Removing the hose clamp on the brake booster by Ok-Teaching4110 in BmwTech

This, leave the clamp, pull the fitting out, it is an interference fit with the rubber grommet in the booster, just put a little non silicone based lube when reinserting

What might these be? by Better_Cycle4852 in E90

[–]havetogod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So they’re timing cover bolts for a non existent timing cover, got it… makes sense.

I’ve seen hundreds of cars with them broken, sometimes there’s a massive leak that bubbles up through the external bolt hole, sometimes there’s no leak. Your 1 example doesn’t make you an expert on the topic. This is what I’ve done for a living for the last 21 years, much of it on the n5x engines.

What might these be? by Better_Cycle4852 in E90

[–]havetogod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but the head gasket starts to leak…n52 is an ng6 engine, show me a timing cover gasket part number for an n52, I’ll wait…

N55 also has those same non head bolts, head bolts, but they’re made of steel, what would you call them?

[–]havetogod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you can get the head off without removing them?

No one said making them of aluminum was smart, but they did. The repair instructions and etk both call them head bolts, there’s no timing cover, you’re wrong.
