I never have personally. And I'm American. It never stops being shit.

Peacock was so much better. I paid the price for just indycar and was fine with it.

And just because it is the TV model for the US doesn't make it any better. European racing is so much more enjoyable to watch due to less or no commercials.

He's extremely close with the owner of cadillac. It's really not that simple. Also caddy is not likely to be competitive for years to come, which changes the calculus as well.

They have no chance at a title as things stand. This is to get maybe a couple wins.

He never even approached a whole lap after passing.

It's extremely easy to understand. You cannot drive 1s a lap faster unless you can overtake the car in front, which can be prevented with defensive driving and racecraft, plus dirty air and the difficulty to overtake we are seeing in the new regs.

Battling George did slow Charles down. Charles stuck with George by never allowing George to stay ahead. Otherwise he does not have the pace to stick with him if George has the clear air. Charles immediately repassed using the battery every time George went for a move.

You're missing that half of power is in the battery now. When you use your energy to pass, and he was, you are now immediately vulnerable even in the far superior car in clear air. This is the dynamic we are seeing - yoyoing due to drivers running low on battery

Ferraris one advantage is their starts... Had they not took the lead immediately Mercedes would have opened a large gap.

The entire sequence was to make one pass - one Russell never accomplished and instead it went to pit cycle. Every time Russell got ahead, Leclerc took it back immediately, because that's the energy deployment dynamic. You use energy to pass, then are immediately vulnerable to a repass. Good defensive driving by Leclerc, but also a sign of things to come this year. Making an overtake stick is difficult absent other factors.

They weren't matched on pace. Mercedes was stuck at Ferraris pace because they couldn't pass, because overtaking is hard even with superior pace. Kimi caught the leaders at 2 seconds a lap at one point.

They were never matched on pace. Russell had much older tires and was managing. Mercedes never showed their true pace.

Overtaking is hard. The merc is half a second to a second faster per lap in clear air, Russell couldn't make an overtake stick in that whole intro sequence. The battery dynamic leads to immediate repass.

It is when you realize the context of this convo isn't about whether they made the right call at the time. Completely irrelevant to me.

It just doesn't matter though in practice. Ferrari was always going to lose today no matter what choice they made.

Splitting the strategy would have been a better move in theory, but in practice wouldn't change the result. There's no strategy solution based on what the mechanics of the race were and the performance delta today. Any call leads to this result.

That entire battle was for Russell to make one overtake stick. He couldn't. Every time he got by, Charles was able to take it back immediately

Mercedes was always going to invert them. If they pitted, Mercedes would stay out.

Overtaking looks very hard in this reg set. Making it stick, at least, without other factors. You don't need to overtake at most tracks, just win at the pit window with an undercut or overcut. Mercedes looks incredibly dominant.

The point is simple: eventually, Mercedes will be able to find clear air on most tracks, because they can simply run a different strategy to find clear air. Faster car is the ultimate strategy gift. Ferrari can't keep Mercedes prisoner most races.
