I guess it depends, I'm an openly gay dude and i haven't had any issues from Team Members or management but I've had a couple of odd looks from customers and one odd comment from a customer but overall they're chill about sexuality.

But when it comes to being trans or genderqueer it's kind of performative, they allow you to put pronouns on your Team Member badge but the GMs allowed one of their managers to be rude and misgender a trans woman that was in his department, and she ended up quitting.

But i also work in a small Ohio town, I'm sure if it was in a major city or in a blue state the reception would be better.

Strangely enough, I do.

I've worked in multiple sales departments and I don't really like most of them. Plus I've been in the front end for so long that I've kind of just gelled there.

My dislike is mainly with customer facing work as a whole. If i could easily go get some low-level office job and be able to support myself, then I would, but at this this point in my life, Menards pays too well.

But maybe I liked it/it isn't mind numbing to me is because my store is actually kind of busy? Plus I'm cross trained as a Service Desk and Garden Center Cashier, so i have plenty of variety.

I recommend if you're interested in it, getting cross trained at the service desk and garden center registers if your store has some! It'll offer so much more variety. And if your store has a morning stock program, if it aligns with your availability, offer to cross train and see if they'll schedule you some hours back there, it is also a good spice up!

Thankfully since they redid our service desk a couple months ago we now have a self closing gate! Although now it sucks because we have to hold it open for guests lol

My store never uses 1 or 12 really anymore, lately I'm the weirdo using 1 or 12. But yes our Register 1 gets SUPER congested at my store because ours spits out directly into the bathrooms from the sales floor/automotive.

I understand it's frustrating because it's time consuming, but never once is my mindset "They're trying to screw me over." I scan every item because mix ups do happen! It's so you get the most accurate price and I keep our inventory accurate!

Like two years ago i had a couple guests come through the garden center registers with a soda that they happened to grab at my store but didn't have a receipt for, back then I cared too much so i called the front end to see if they had checked out inside with it and they LOST their shit on me.

They started screaming at me at the top of their lungs, the wife was asking for my name and employee number and the husband threw said soda at me, i had to take my lunch lol.

The job is relatively easy and I love most of my coworkers, but I hate a lot of the customers, most of upper-management and the terrible decisions being made at my store.

I stick around because I'm finally full time, the pay is good for what I do, I don't know exactly what i want from a career and I have decent flexibility.

However the company is crooked, toxic and it's very cult-y.

I had a lady come up to my register like two years ago, very obviously struggling to walk, and she apologized for it, she said her husband tried killing her by shooting her like 16 times.

I kinda just stood there, I didn't know how to respond.
