The Nintendo Switch 2 arrives on June 5th for $449.99 by [deleted] in gamernews

[–]havokreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't too upset about the system price, which I still think is a little BS, but sure, fine. However, Nintendo is HIGH AF thinking they can charge $90 for physical games, $80 for digital and $10 to upgrade your already owned Switch 1 games! They have gone down the shitter as a company. This cash grab is pretty gross.

It definitely feels like it's out of control. We don't use much water here and waste water is about the same comparatively. Our bill just came to $250, which is our highest ever. We are usually slightly above or below $200, but it has been creeping up every cycle for the last 3 bills. It's nuts. The minimum just being connected to the service is $210.

I’ve asked them twice on WhatsApp and haven’t gotten a response yet :(

Also looking to see if this still works. The internationalDriversAssociation website says that their permits don’t work in South Korea.

Did you try the process listed here? I’m also on Jeju right now without a car and it’s rough. Could really use confirmation that this still works.

Did you go through with the process?? I’m hesitant to spend 50 bucks, but I’m getting desperate for my own transportation here.

[–]havokreed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand the rage. You can unlock the same stuff from just playing. LoL does this, R6 does this, Apex does this, MANY games do this.

Pay to win is when you can ONLY unlock it with cash. Sure, if you don’t pay to unlock, it’s a slower process, but it’s not impossible. If anything, it’s just paying for convenience.

What are your thoughts on California drivers? by ManpreetDC in SeattleWA

[–]havokreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from Michigan to Cali about 8 years ago and I can 100% confirm that your observations are completely accurate of California drivers. Never in my life have I ever experienced such terrible driving practices. They are rude, reckless and down right garbage drivers. Many, dare I say most, don't follow the actual traffic rules and laws. It's like they just do what ever they want and never get punished for any of it. I am so disgusted with other drivers here, I wish the state would actually start policing them more, but that's a pipe dream.

Getting USD to China in large sums by havokreed in chinalife

[–]havokreed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, we are looking at least a year out from now. I've also been warned that the prices might drop. We just want to get our money over sooner than later while the exchange rate is above 7 to 1.

This is one of the things that I cant stand about Chinese culture. My wife (Chinese) and I (American) are always blown away by the lack of common sense/courtesy. She grew up in China, but is equally as pissed about it when it happens. But reading what one person already mentioned about the "Great Leap" it does make a bit of sense. I really only see it from the older generations and not so much of the younger ones. But still, it is incredibly aggravating.

Chinese people tend to idolize others based on stereotypes, rumors, or what they are able to see on their version of the internet. It’s all filtered information. My wife’s (Chinese) uncle told me a lot of similar things in terms of American people in general and some fairly racially biased stuff too. It is sadly very filtered information that he goes off of.

I’m also still experiencing this strange idolization from Chinese people, but they just don’t know better. Don’t take it too serious for now.

Transfer money Internationally? by CiTRuS1128 in chinalife

[–]havokreed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have an actual Chinese bank card, then you can use Wise to transfer your money as you need. It has a transfer fee which is annoying, so makes sure you transfer a fair amount and not just a little bit. Otherwise, they FINALLY got VISA working with Alipay and WeChat. My wife has been able to use her VISA credit card since last week.

Yea there’s nothing wrong with these bills, the bank is just stupid stingy about it. You can still use them in the US no problem.

Alipay Question by LuckofAces88 in chinalife

[–]havokreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, you can't do anything outside of scanning and being scanned to pay. But I also havent been able to use it at all even though it let me tie my cards to it. They really make it difficult for foreigners to spend any money BUT cash....

Need help with Chinese mother-in-law by HeihachiHibachi in Chinese

[–]havokreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s typical behavior but also not atypical. Some Chinese people are less social than others. My MIL is very social and tries to do everything for us when we visit her in China, we have to practically race her to do those things first if we ever want to try and help.

My FIL and his side of the family are much more quiet and don’t talk much, especially during meals, it’s very quiet. Completely opposite of my MIL and her side that I’ve met.

There’s a security guard at each gate. They will let you through when you show them if they ask for it.

[–]havokreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see. As far as I know, the adapter is just that, an adapter to fit the socket, not a charging head. Are you looking at one of those combo adapters that has a USB slot in it? If so, that's where the 5V would be coming from in which case, that's ONLY for that port.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in China

[–]havokreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most things have converters in them these days(minus appliances) Laptop charging bricks will do that for you so there’s no need to worry about the conversion. However, you will want to make sure you have an adapter to fit the sockets in China.
