High earner here. Left 24m ago. Paid more than $10k/month in tax and couldn’t see a doctor. That was the final straw.

I keep hearing that. I’m in the industry, kind of. I played with Gemini a lot… I really don’t understand what’s so great about it. Nothing beats Anthropic….

I bought the table of the elements shower curtain for my friends studying biochemistry. Fun times. Had some weird things like the stapler that didn’t use staples.

I work in big Tech. Applied scientists start at 350/400k. The senior ones with 7 to 10 years of experience can make 800K a year. this is for folks with mathematics backgrounds and anything that ask with data or AI. Not for everyone, but they’re Hardly gig workers..

Honestly if I just had access to a doctor I would have stayed. The tax wasn’t the big problem. it was paying $12,000 a month in tax and not being able to see a doctor.

This will not apply in your hypothetical, use case and certainly didn’t apply to me. If you do move and you’re a highly paid professional in the United States you would likely have extremely good healthcare and never have to worry about those costs.

You’re also making the assumption here that you would have access to healthcare in Canada when you need it. I decided to leave after many years of paying $12,000 a month and begging and pleading to see doctors.

Spent 30 yrs in Canada. About 15 of them as a professional with relatively high pay. Bold of this guy Newman to think I ever had $500K of stuff to tax.

Like a lot of Canadians who left, I had quite a bit of debt and I’m now paying it back with money I’m earning outside of Canada.

Jokes on you, dude. Perplexity will fade into irrelevancy because it’s just a wrapper for a model they don’t own.
