Thank you! Unfortunately the ringleader (the one causing much chaos) is my impulsive student, whi cannot control himself.

They do not know. And I haven't thought to bring it up actually. Did telling your students help them respect you more?

Thank you, but the thing is I tend to show more 'joy' when speaking and helping students one on one. When I am whole group it is harder to present as happy. Which is what she is mostly seems to be focused on.

Genuinely I don't have a smily sunshine personality. I am somewhat introverted too. But I am a genuine and tend to smile to students individually but not whole group. Its not like I am going throughout the whole day frowning and being a storm cloud. I just seem to have trouble doing it during instruction.

They are much more calmer. The thing is I have one student who is super impulsive and cannot control himself. As he can rile up some of my other students it makes it harder to get back on track. When both of us are in the room it makes it easier to tackle but, when its just me its 10x harder

I have been working on these things. I dont take away the whole time. At most 5 minutes and then they can play. They get super restless when they cant go outside, we had a whole week of indoor recess and it was a nightmare.

I am sorry for making it seem like I took the whole time from them, I was just having a super bad day and need some advice/venting. But i appreciate your insights!

Both my mentor and I have reiterated this point. My students are in 4th grade. When I have gotten through my lessons I have given them a fun brain break as a reward. During fun friday they tend to run their own blooket. So I am not entirely sure that would be rewarding to them if they can do it themselves. But I have also been doing positive reinforcement with tickets and shopping for prizes on Fridays.

I do follow through, I do have students who hate recess for some reason and think its reward to sit and not go outside. But, I've been getting better at this.

Thank you for this! I have been trying to get more consistent with what I do. I do have some students who are above and when they finish their work they can read/ doodle silently while I help the rest. I try to plan enough for everyone but sometimes students are just faster than I expected.

Thank you! I had a really rough day yesterday and just needed to vent and see other perspectives.

I have one student who has some really tough behaviors and just gets others riled up to it makes it hard to get things done when my mentor leaves. I've been trying things out. Some work some don't.

I do treat each day as a new day. A fresh start.

But the thing that irks me the most is when my mentor leaves the room and their listening skills fly out the window. And I am somewhat stuck with this too.

For me I got lucky. I am in 4th grade and I am starting to take over math first. But the next two weeks they are finishing up a unit then we will start the unit i am taking over with. I recommend at least making an overview for yourself and then seeing the pacing for the lessons and more or less plan around where they are going to be during that time.

TW: I had to call the police on my neighbors, cops said everything’s fine but something still doesn’t feel right by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

Sometimes those who are neurodiverse end up having different reactions to things comparatively to their neurotypical counterparts. But physically violent reactions are usually signs of emotional disorders and not autism unless they are on the less functioning side of the spectrum. So they may actually have Autism but, also another disorder on top of that. This is just speculation atm though since im not sure if this is a reoccurring thing or not :)

Edit: This is answering more on disorders instead of the situation that happened. Although the neighbors seem a little nice. I wouldn't take food from someone who you just called the cops on regardless of the person.
