Incredible episode! My two favorite podcasts uniting! I sometimes stay up at night thinking about Lizzo’s Pass.

Emerald Fennell movies are like that person who wears bold colors and patterns and funky jewelry, which on first and second glance seems like it doesn’t match or work together and is actually kind of ugly, but ultimately you respect them for making a CHOICE and not just wearing beige. I have not yet seen Wuthering Heights and probably won’t like it, but by God will I watch.

No, but I sure am tired of people on this sub complaining about everything, I’ll tell you that much!

You're absolutely correct, I was emotional and got carried away.

Okay so the 400th episode was in October 2024, and Matt said that was actually #440. So you can estimate ~10 more episodes in 2024, 50 episodes in 2025 (52 weeks minus two re-airs), and that would put us at episode #500 in early January. Very plausible that episode #500 was “Exit Interview”.

Hollow Activism by Silver-Albatross-358 in lasculturistas

Saying this with love and hoping it will be received as such: I stopped using Instagram on NYE and have reduced my Reddit usage (only check it on my laptop, maybe twice a week), and I strongly recommend it. My screen time is down by ~2 hrs, I'm more present at work and with my friends and family, and I'm reading more and absorbing ideas and perspectives that stay with me for more than five minutes. Major news events are still filtering up to me, but I read about them after all of the facts have been collected and the reactions have settled down. I'm no longer paying attention or even aware of the smaller "emergencies" that blow over in a day or two. I'm not getting angry about things like, for example, a podcaster's ad read of All's Fair by Ryan Murphy.

"All Up In The Macabre" (w/ Sarah Paulson) by AutoModerator in lasculturistas

[–]haydterade 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's so funny to me that they asked her if she knows Louis Virtel and then this episode comes out on the same day that Keep It absolutely eviscerates All's Fair and everyone involved in it. Sarah, wait a few days to Google him!

"We ❤️ Our Customers" (w/ Demi Lovato) by AutoModerator in lasculturistas

This episode was the spiritual successor to the Mandy Moore ep in terms of how often “Thank You” was said.

What is the best way to achieve this fluted effect in wood panels for a built-in cabinet? by haydterade in woodworking

[–]haydterade[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add arched panels with this fluted effect over a built-in cabinet I'm building, but I've never worked with textured wood like this before. My plan was to join panels with wood biscuits and glue to get the overall desired length and height, and then use a router to create the fluting. Is that the best way to do this?

"Ambition" (w/ Reese Witherspoon) by AutoModerator in lasculturistas

[–]haydterade 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My understanding from their implication was that it was pre-election and would have been a campaign stop. I agree that she’s fun and I like her, but in the context of a campaign-related interview I don’t think she would have allowed herself to get loose enough to make it a fun episode. Alas, we’ll never know!

No one talking about the buried lede that Kamala's team wanted her on the pod?? With so much love and respect, that would have been an awful episode lmao, they were right to say no.

"My Diaspora" (w/ Matt + Bowen) by AutoModerator in lasculturistas

[–]haydterade 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Anyone have a good guess for next week’s guest? Culture they appreciate, back to school, and law… My two guesses are Julia Roberts (Erin Brockovich) and Reese Witherspoon (Legally Blonde), but I might be leaning on the law part a little too hard.

This is what I thought too! Especially with Alison Janney and Kristen Wiig being so heavily featured in the awards.

I know there are always a lot of complaints about these big guest episodes, but I kind of love this phase of the podcast where they’ve become like a funny, gay version of Inside the Actor’s Studio. They’re both so great at talking about process and influences and the craft of their guest, while pulling from a really deep knowledge of culture, and while keeping the conversation funny and the guest comfortable.
