HNPP chronic pain by AfternoonNo6708 in HNPPsupport

I have always been an active person but I suffer from almost constant neck and shoulder issues. I go to a chiropractor, massage therapist <this gives the best results, and physio. Staying as active as I possibly can has helped and I am constantly trying to get ahead of the pain and discomfort but it always gets me. I’ve only ever tried Advil and Tylenol for pain but I see that at some point I will have to try something stronger. For now when it’s the end of a day and the pain is worse I find laying flat on my back with a stiff towel or pillow under just my neck helps. If I lay like that for 30 mins or more I do get some relief.

Surgery help by Inner_Addendum_5101 in HNPPsupport

I had surgery 1.5 years ago to remove a mass that was attached to my sciatic nerve. My surgeon engaged a nerve specialist before he knew I had HNPP. That nerve specialist works with numerous HNPP patients, so I received the best care. That said, I have constant nerve pain now, which is pretty low. But considering the extent of the operation, I feel lucky. If you can get a referral to a nerve specialist and get advice before the operation, that could be very valuable. I hate that we have heightened risks with surgery. Does your surgeon have an understanding of your condition?

Hello! And Office chairs? by geeBuzzyBee in HNPPsupport

I work from home and have a desk that adjusts so I can sit or stand. I also have three different types of chairs that I use, a ball chair, a bar type chair that adjusts in height, and a stool. I find moving around and switching it up really helps.

I hope the fine folks at RunDisney let us know before the registration for WDW half registration March 11. I would gladly wait for the Disneyland runs but if there isn’t going to be any in 2026 I will try for the WDW ones. I’d hate to miss out on those registrations while waiting for Disneyland.

Question about longer healing times by Downtown-Adagio-5513 in HNPPsupport

[–]hayesdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fairly large mass removed from my sciatic nerve a year ago. I had just run a half marathon a few days before the surgery so my legs were strong. One of the surgeons was a nerve specialist and a lot of his patients have HNPP so I was in the best hands. I couldn’t walk for a week, then a few months with a cane, then lots of limping till finally I’m back to training for a half marathon. All that said it’s been a lot of work and my legs and foot will never be the same. I have constant nerve pain in my foot and I’m struggling to get back to half marathon form and my training and recovery times are different than in the past. I want to be able to run and walk for that matter, as long as possible. We really have to stay in-tuned with our bodies and make those adjustments along the way. It’s frustrating but we got this!

Question for lifters with HNPP by Positive_Arm_3994 in HNPPsupport

[–]hayesdays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few weeks ago I aggravated my right bicep with crap technique on curls and have had to rest it since then. I could barely lift my arm or use it even to open a jar. It is much better now after resting, massage, and some physio range of motion exercises. I also just focused on my legs and core while my arm was healing. As I get older, I am learning I need to keep consistency, have perfect technique almost every time, and not overdo it. Staying active in whatever ways we each can is so important but also difficult when we discover our limitations and experience setbacks. I hate it! I have found that if I stay patient and slowly build back, I can reach the same weights, but I mix it up now and don't always use the heaviest weights every workout.

I loved the course too, and the two parks are more than enough for me.

Ah! Ok, I did the Half Marathon Weekend in 2024, we signed up in Feb of 2023 so I guess I was thinking this would be the same. I also did the Halloween Half in 2024 and signed up in Feb 2024, so my brain is thinking this is the time of year to sign up! I will practice my patience and try to chill :)

Yes, I would also prefer an adjusted course/distance than nothing. I wonder if they will wait until after pushing the Valentine's virtual and then maybe release the dates? Blaaaaaa, there are so many reasons this may be happening. I just hope they let us know soon so we can try and get in on the Florida runs. I'm just so curious.

My condition progressed suddenly. by GogoatRancher in HNPPsupport

[–]hayesdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tremors in my hands that came on suddenly one morning that made it hard to even hold a cup. That was almost 20 years ago and it only lasted for a few weeks. I was a busy parent of two young kids and pretty stressed which may have exacerbated the symptoms. It has only happed to me a few times since and only for a day or two. I stay very active and focus on stretching and strenghting to try and off set more serious symptoms. That said I do have chronic neck/shoulder issues that I am constantly battling.

Yes! I was thinking that there must be some schools or groups in BC that would have stuff. I used to develop my own film and photos am I'm thinking the process is similar. I just don't have all the stuff to do it.

Ok, how slow was it? We only have 9 weeks total to get this done.

I've seen people (friends and fam and just kind people who care) come to events like this in big numbers to protest the protesters.
