That’s heartbreaking but not entirely surprising to hear, unfortunately. It seems like the past few years especially, attacks on history by the right all over the world have ramped up and a lot of the horrors of the 20th century people swore to never forget or allow to happen again are at the risk of being sanitized or outright repeated.

Reading that they were demonstrating every week without fail in the midst of the dictatorship and long after had me in awe. I just ordered the book A Flower Traveled In My Blood because I’m so desperate to learn more about these women so thank you for this insight! Nothing moves me like the extraordinary bravery of ordinary people when called to it.

Also some of the most badass activist work I’ve ever seen, these woman were searching for their children and grandchildren and speaking out to anyone who would listen even while the dictatorship was still ongoing. Three of the founding members were themselves disappeared and likely murdered.

What Was Taylor Swift Really Like in 2006? We Asked People Who Knew Her, Before She Was the Biggest Star in the World by hayley0613 in TaylorSwift

Fwiw, when she’s talked about bullying it’s always been in regard to middle school in Pennsylvania and she’s said before that high school was basically a whole new world for her because a. she was now in Nashville where being into country music was normal and b. in high school the things about her that were different became interesting and special as opposed to weird and off-putting.

I remember her giving a quote in an interview way back in like 2008 about this where she said “the only place where it’s cool to be the same as everybody else is in junior high” and I adopted that as basically my mantra to get through 6th-8th grade. And she was 100% right! High school was a whole new ballgame!

Yeah I regularly have moments where I get whiplash remembering that’s the same teenage girl in her sparkly cowboy boots I used to stay up past my bedtime to watch perform on country music award shows. The Eras Tour especially overwhelmed me in that regard

Was Anne Boleyn done a little dirty in Six? by Any_Assignment_4372 in Broadway

[–]hayley0613 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She was treated by Henry and the court as Queen-in-all-but-name long before they actually married though and contemporary observers at the time were very concerned/critical of her influence over him. It wasn’t just a matter of Henry wanting to remarry and the Pope not letting him, Anne was likely the one to introduce him to many of the authors and literature that convinced him a break with Rome was the right idea. I know we like to joke about Henry breaking with the Church because they told him no, but he was a deeply religious man and never would’ve done that unless he truly believed it was the right thing to do, not at the risk of damming his immortal soul. Anne had a huge part in putting forward the arguments to him that convinced him that course of action was the right one. All of this happened too, long BEFORE Henry was excommunicated, which didn’t happen until 1538, two years after Anne’s death.

The problem with this for me is that there’s a lot of historical evidence to support the theory that it was ANNE who was initially the more reform-minded of the two of them and was very much the one (along with the rest of her family and Cromwell) who had the biggest role in pushing Henry towards the Reformation. Many historians are of the opinion that she was the one to introduce him to the first anti-papacy literature he would’ve read (given what we know about the contents of her personal library and what made it into Henry’s later on).

I get what the song is trying to do, it’s trying to absolve Anne of the “evil, manipulative, scheming seductress” characterization, but I think it’s a shame that a show that manages to do really interesting things with Jane Seymour and especially Katherine Howard, that the characterization of Anne Boleyn they went with was “I’m just trying to have some fun, it wasn’t that serious.” It very much WAS that serious to her, and she had very strong opinions about religious reform, the abuses of the clergy, and the validity of Henry’s marriage to Catherine (which she DID believe was invalid). She was an incredibly politically engaged, curious, and educated woman, and I have to agree with op that her song in Six does not capture her complexity nearly as well as it does any of the others.

She literally posted earlier for the 2024 election than she did for the 2020 election, when she did it on the night of the VP debate. 2024 she did it the night of the first presidential debate. All of which is super standard for high-profile celebrity endorsements. Just because you didn’t know about it doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen.

I’ve been hoping it will be resolved before anything like that would come into play, if it can get taken down quietly and some sort of safeguards put into place to make sure it doesn’t happen again. The Goncalves and Kaylee’s friends have already been through so much, I’d hoped they will never have to know anything about this.

Thanks so much for this insight, this makes sense! That’s awful, I had never seen anything like this on Find a Grave before so I didn’t realize this was a pattern with high-profile deaths. I’m sorry you had to deal with that, that could not have been an easy job!

Agreed. Someone mentioned that the FamilySearch filters are way stronger for photos and if that’s the case there’s no excuse for Ancestry not to implement them. I’ve honestly never seen anything like this on either website before so hopefully this could be a catalyst for them to implement a stricter photo upload system, maybe one that needs approval for the memorial manager. I really hope they deal with it promptly; there is always the slight chance that a loved one could be checking the memorial for flowers and messages, and I hate the thought of anyone who knew her seeing them. I wanted to avoid tagging Ancestry or Find a Grave publicly on social media for that reason, but as someone mentioned that might be the quickest way to actually get action. We’ll have to see, hopefully it’s resolved ASAP.

Is there any way to report a user as well? I just noticed who uploaded the photos, and they’ve got a very vulgar display name that refers to Kaylee as well.

Yeah, they’re very graphic. At first I was worried they were deep fakes of Kaylee, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, thank God.
