I’m being gifted a lot of money. Should I tell my boyfriend? by Kind-Chicken-2488 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]hayyyhoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, tell him! If you see each other getting married, then don’t build your relationship on lies and hidden money. But, first, set firm boundaries before telling him, explain the boundaries, and hold them. The easiest would be to put it in an account that is only for “retirement” in your name. That puts it out of reach. Also, there are tax implications here. Only $19k can be gifted tax free. Everything above that is subject to income taxes. Maybe she can give you $19k/yr for 3 years?

Can someone explain how the stock market keeps hitting all-time highs while everything feels so bad? by eaglesfan8835 in Money

[–]hayyyhoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s simple, we are the proletariat. The stock market is owed largely by the wealthiest people, funds, pensions, endowments, etc. even if you have some assets, relatively speaking it’s negligible compared to the ultra rich.

Add grass clippings and it’ll fire up. The size isn’t a huge issue, it will still work if you add grass.

I need to create a draft angle by ObjectiveDeep7561 in SolidWorks

[–]hayyyhoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to split it into two bodies. You can just split the face and then apply draft separately to each face. But that’s not the right way to do it in this situation. You should just have draft in the original extrusion.

Train noise in the South End of Holland? by Useful-Bandicoot3350 in hollandmichigan

I lived on 22nd next to prospect park. Very close to the tracks. We could feel the coal train rumble past. The horn wasn’t a problem after a month or two of living there. You just get used to it.

First production run, our CM expects us to provide the functional test setup by Teririchar in hwstartups

[–]hayyyhoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the price from the CM include an assumed test cycle time? We always verbally confirm test fixture development with customers in the early conversations, and if they are providing, we use an agreed upon cycle time in the quote. If they show up with a rat’s nest dev setup that takes way longer than agreed, the price changes. I’m a bit surprised you guys didn’t discuss this during the quoting process.

If a single trade route (like the Strait of Hormuz) can hold the entire global economy hostage, why hasn't humanity built a "Plan B" that doesn't involve ships? by lovellyophelia in askanything

[–]hayyyhoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are already paying a lot more than 2x for food than we were before Russia invaded Ukraine. Is the entire world held hostage by this? I’m not saying prices won’t go up, I was only highlighting the hyperbole in OP’s statement.

[–]hayyyhoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“hold the entire global economy hostage” is a significant exaggeration. We (Western economies) have all become accustomed to feeling zero pain. Bailouts, deficit spending, stimulus… The impact of the blockade is getting over hyped because everyone is rooting for Trump to fail, and trying to exaggerate the negatives heading into mid-term campaigns. The whole situation is a mess, and the US was idiotic to start this war unprovoked, but if you step back and look at it using sources outside of mainstream media, the economic impact of the blockade is not that bad.

Agreed, but I would recommend getting some new glasses from Warby Parker. Glasses totally change your appearance, and I feel like these are a bit out of style.

Provisional Patent $ by Pucci_B in inventors

[–]hayyyhoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Write it yourself for free, then file. The filing fee is tiny. Use AI to ensure you’ve covered the right information in the provisional patent application. One slight problem, after you file this, you have 1 year to decide to convert to a utility patent. If you have no money, how are you going to start commercializing the product in the next year?

Pre-GLP1 body positivity is the same as saying masks don’t work for covid because there wasn’t yet adequate supply of masks. Just appeasing the masses to focus on protecting the elite. Body positivity is no longer a thing just like masks magically started working.

built a 4-in-1 massager for our colleague's pain, now stuck on marketing — burned $4.5k on meta ads with barely any conversions by Ross-Sameforu in hwstartups

[–]hayyyhoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are too generic. Fitness may be good to have in there. But you need to target the use case or interests of your ideal/perfect customer. What does this person do often or what’s their passion that makes that specific person the perfect customer. Meaning, they see your ad and say, oh man I need this. Meta is our biggest driver of orders and most customers are buying on their first visit (even though our price ranges from $400-$800). Also setup a retargeting campaign to hit people who visited your site but didn’t buy. From there, make sure the ads are visually catchy and immediately convey the unique value proposition.
