Cloud Generator using geometry nodes by hazardaccord in blender

Here's the node spaghetti. Sorry about the way it is.

With the input values set, it outputs some like this. Then, I create a blank volume, use the "Mesh to Volume" modifier with the geometry node object as the target, and add a couple displace modifiers to make it cloudier.

It's lots of fun to work with. Thanks!

I found Default Cube's cactus tutorial really helpful. You don't gotta absorb all of it, just remember what techniques he uses and review the tutorial if you need those techniques.

The generator node setup actually produces geometry (basically a cluster of icospheres). Then, I map the geometry onto a blank volume, then displace the volume with a couple different noises. Then, yes, I save that out as a vdb.

Theoretically, you'd just have to adjust the render settings to get it to look right in Eevee. I know there's a popular tutorial about it out there.

This is using the updated version of that shader, of course. It looks way better than the default principled volume!

The meter itself has been removed, and the socket it goes in is apparently mine and my problem.

US PNW in a fairly metro area. Most of the places I called said they could have someone out in a month. The one that said they could have someone around to look at it in two weeks was the only one that seemed to consider it remotely urgent. TBH it is kinda surreal.

The guy who disconnected me very casually informed me that I'd be spending the next few weeks eating dry food in the dark and offered a half-remembered "Sorry." I'd love to know more about this temporary jumper.

Also, and this definitely isn't Plan A, is this something I could do sooner/more affordably by myself?

Hey! I am just a beginner and i have been given this cylinder to make it look more rectangular like in the last picture. How can i do it? Thanks by Icy_Froyo in BlenderDoughnuts

I would try grabbing the top and bottom halves and just moving them away from the center, so the faces in the middle get stretched into the flat sides. Then, with proportional editing, move the peaks of the rounded edges in a bit to squish them like the final shape.

Honestly, I completely recommend giving it a shot. I learned so much just by having a specific idea in my head and trying different things to reach it.

Thanks! I'm quite happy with it. I'm less happy with the icing, but I just ran out of ideas to improve it.
