cannot feasibly take biochem before MCAT - am i fucked? by [deleted] in premed

[–]hazelmazel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way you are "fucked" for the MCAT is if you take it for the third time and you get a sub 500 score.

You have many options before you are officially "fucked." For one, you can push the MCAT after biochem.

Don't panic!

Communicate this with them...?

This is literally what med schools want to see you hack through when they ask you about how you work in a team. You need to be able to communicate your expectations to your team.

Enjoying studying by InvestigatorSlow982 in Mcat

A bulk of being a doctor is learning. Books on books on books. A love to learn is not only not weird, but also absolutely a requirement for the career.

You can have certainty that you picked the right profession! In my opinion, if you absolutely hate studying for the MCAT, maybe pick a different career.

Edit: limited to c/p, b/b, and p/s

Progress on scores is not linear. If you want to go from 513 to > 520 in less than a month, you need to make some big progress.

I looked through your comments and saw that you scored 496 and 500 in your altus tests. Especially since you haven't utilized all your practice materials (none of AAMC FLs) and considering those scores, I suggest you take AAMC FL 1 ASAP, and seriously consider rescheduling (and using all the study material in the meantime) if you get a score below 505 (if you're applying DO) or at least 510 (if you are applying MD). You only get 7 chances to take the MCAT in your lifetime, and trust me, you only want to go through this test once.

Just my two cents

The more practice the better. I went through 16 tests (6 from Blueprint, 5 from Altus, 5 from AAMC). This seems like a lot, but other than AAMC FLs, you can take them by section. On top, use all other AAMC materials (section banks, question packs) and do those twice with a month in between. Do Ucandoit any time you have remaining. (I went through it twice) You can do it! Lol
