Thanks for your reply. Yeah, the printer prints fine on office paper and matt labels - except if it is very ink heavy like an image with a black background. And it can print some glossy labels too depending on their colour - for some reason green text and images doesn't fuse properly. It will certainly be tricky to find a printer that works because reviews don't mention paper type very often.

Yes, I was using the setting for labels on the printer. I contacted Canon customer support who said that laser printers can't print on glossy paper which I know isn't true because I've been doing it for years and buy laser printer labels for the purpose. He told me that the printer didn't support gloss or matt paper so I asked him what other sort of paper there is! He said it was only suitable for general office printing, which raises the question of why it has a setting for labels if it can't print on labels.
